I notice most of you guys with rear discs use the Monti Carlo calipers instead of the El Dorado ones with the built-in E-brake. Is that because it does'nt work that great? Anyone know how well it holds?

I have the Eldo calipers on the back of my S/O 60 with 35's and they hold and stop the truck great. I cut the little tabs off the calipers to et more range of movement and never looked back. For me it was a geat and easy swap.

It's on my list of swaps, but they are pricey (relative to Monte's) and with the stock t-case mounted e-brake, they are redundant. Most don't spring for the cost.

set them up with individual levers/cables and run an ARB in the rear and you have instant cutting brakes....heh heh...on my list someday!

Will the eldo calipers swap easily to a system that currently has the Monte brakes? There's times I REALLY need a parking brake, and that's all I need to pass inspection.

Since I'm 205 t-cased, driveline parking brake is a no-go for me.

Line lock is about my only other option...

...and line locks are not TLCA approved for their events, IIRC

From what I know, they are identical for mounting and connecting, just add the e-brake option.

Good deal...

There's no mention of these calipers on the ih8mud site, but a search turned up a few years... we are looking for the '79-'85 rears, right?

Yep. The big GM calipers with 7-1/16" pin spacing are from 76-78, and the smaller GM calipers with a 5-1/2" pin spacing are from 79-85.

I got my (1983) El Dorado rear calipers for $10 each from car-parts.com. I was gonna use them as a core or rebuild them but they were in excellent shape, didnt even need a rebuild.
