I don't get it. Once the tires spin on either truck its getting dragged. I think vehicle weight and gearing would be more important than hp.

i coulda told you the hummer was gonna win before i started watching it. and not only cuz its in the hummer section and not the ford. but hummers have bigger tires and geared lower than an f250. the hummer had more tire contact to the road. put the same tires on the 250 and gear it the same and itll be a little more inresting. sucks he broke his ujoint lol

Ya,this seems like a typical redneck victory me..never taking in account anything but engines.

You need traction in a pull like that, such as with gearing giving torque and no spin. Spinning the tires might give you some sort of traction but in a way causes you to float. If it was in mud or sand you might have a different store. Sand, you'd just see both sink.
TJVigilante

static vs. dynamic friction. If you spin a tire, you're working with the much lower Dynamic friction, and the other vehicle has the much greater static coefficient of friction.

Not sure how the guys in the video can say the Hummer beat the Ford; throughout the video every time the Ford started winning, the guy with the camera kept yelling: "stop! stop!" Only time the Hummer moved the Ford is when it started spinning its tires. I counted at least 4 times that the Ford won in the pulloff...
Put a little weight in the back of the Ford bed and there will be no contest...
KiGrind

So if the hummer was winning, why is the idiot screaming stop every time the F250 starts pulling away? Ego stroke anyone? Really for what the person paid for the vehicle, what GM boasts about it, the numbers on paper, and the fact its just an F250, I sure hope he could pull it... but I was proven wrong.

Which rig weighs more? It's called normal force. I'm a Chevy fan, but that Ford is much more powerful than the Hummer. Despite it's overall length, I bet the Hummer may weigh a little more. Your ability to get power to the ground is limited simply by normal force and friction coefficient (be that static or rolling). Now tires spinning certainly adds a variable, but who cares. If I can pull with a million pounds of force perpindicular to the normal force I create with my 205 pounds of meat and love handles, a Pinto will still drag my ass down the road all day long. Dumbasses should of paid attention in 10th grade physics.

did anyone else notice the strap angle ? pulling up on the fords rear ? mechanical advantage -
i had a similer buff with my 95 f250 and a 92 cummins - he was 7900 lbs - i was 4700 - with a flat strap - i won i 2wd - but in 4 - he would drag me without slipping a tire - i guess over 4k on the front axle didnt hurt - it made for some good pics - will find them if i can

Strap angle, ford only started spinning when the driveshaft broke, and cameradouche yelling stop and cutting off when the ford starts pulling easy. Lame.

looks to me the ford wins the first 2 pulls, and in the 3rd/final pull the ford got dragged a bit, but then recovered and stopped the hummer dead before it broke a driveshaft -- looked pretty even on that final pull. The annoying cameraman kept yelling stop when the hummer driver was honking for reasons unknown (wrong gear? engine died? he liked the sound of the whimpy stock horn? his pussy hurt?) -- who knows. Says alot about the gearing and the cummings (4 cylinder/175 hp) in the hummer.
all that being said, it's a pretty stupid comparison. The truck's are designed for different purposes. Contests like that are like the special olympics...even the winner's a retard.

Then later when my 5700# Scout pulled against my Brother's 28000# over the road, dual locked axle International. I barely beat him and bent the rear of his frame. We both were shocked on that one. Luckily my Daughter videoed that one because it was truly stupid and unbelievable.

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n272/SSII/P1010011-1.jpg
This time, I only built a fuel injected 6-71 blown 490 CI BBC to power the manual 4l80 that I built, to the 203-205 doubled cases to a narrowed 60 front and a rear steer narrowed, centered Dana 70 that I built.
I also performed all of the body work and paint. In my garage.
It took me 6 months this time compared to the 1 month previously years prior as my Son and Daughter wasn't around to help.

Cognito and Fabtech make a nice front end upgrades for the H2, Pitman, Idler, HD Tie rods that I swear are bullet proof, but it's bolt on....easy, other than that?
You call them intermediate shafts, we call them half shafts, and on the H2 their fine unless you lift it, which I think is a bad move on GM IFS.
H3's, not much to do either....a cast iron front diff would be nice.
Only thing really would be SAS.

The guy in the Hummer is a regular over on www.humvee.net. His Hummer has a stock Cummins 4BT conversion. he posted that vid about a month or so ago and the Ford actually did break a driveshaft. This kind of pull-off has more to do with traction than power, of course that Ford had more HP and Torque.
Rmember that while Pirate4x4 is the shit for 99% of off road guys, the site has ignored Hummers for years, right up until a few weeks ago when this Hummer section opened up. www.humvee.net has the most hard core H1 owners and drivers by far, and it will take a long time for them to switch over to pirate.... if they ever do. I will post on both, but don't be surprised if this forum ends up being an H2, H3, and Conversion kit H1 forum, there aren't a lot of H1 owners, and they already have thier forum which has been around since 1996... it will take a while to get more of them over here.

I don't care what you say.....any vehicle with geared hubs will never be cheap or easy to mod.
Have you ever priced a brake job for an H1???
These trucks are stupid expensive to own, build and repair.
There is no cheap-easy anything about an H1, or 2 or 3.

I disagree. If you do your own work on them they are not so bad. Majority GM parts and some parts such as brake pads and front calipers can be cross referenced at NAPA usually coming out of things like Wagoneers or Cherokees. My truck (H1 Gasser) has over 130,000 miles on it and there were only a few things expensive (like the AC/Heater needing to be replaced) during that time. Granted you need to do the brakes more often (about every two years) but the job is neither difficult nor expensive.
But yeah, if you let someone else work on it, they'll charge you the traditional Hummer tax.
It is a very easy truck to wrench on. But not easy or cheap to modify which is probably why they don't get modified a lot.
Oh and air filters on a gasser are outrageously priced.
