View Full Version : My welding gas flows all the time

Just recently I noticed that when I open the valve on the tank it begins flowing out the welding gun whether the trigger is pulled or not. I'm assuming it's just a solenoid somewhere in there, but I couldn't find it without taking apart the entire thing. It's on a Hobart 140. Anyone had similar problems?

Sounds like some crap got into the solenoid. Did you use teflon tape to seal the gas hose fitting?

I bought a Millermatic 210 2 years ago that was fitted with a batch of bad gas solenoids that was doing the same thing.
I contacted the repair center, they called Miller and had 2 new ones in 3 days.

An electrical sol on my 135 sticks every once in a while when I am welding on level 4....its the rear of the two white ones. When it sticks the wire is also always hot. A little tap and it unsticks itself. I realy need to see about replacing it, it has been doing it for years.

That is not the solenoid causing the problem. If the wire is hot when the gas stays on there is a relay on the board that is sticking. \

Is a relay on the board like you're describing soldered to the board, or would it plug into a base?

Mines about the same age, and it sticks. Guess I'll be calling miller.

I've got a 4 year old Miller 135 and the gas stuck open on me once a few months ago. Every once in a while, the wire feed would stick too. In my case, it was the trigger. After replacing the spade connectors at the trigger, neither the gas or wire feed has stuck.

Electical Solinoid....Electrical Relay....its all the same thing in the eyes of a ME :flipoff2: Kinda sucks if it is sodered to the board. Luckly I have a EE friend who can replace it if I ever get around to fixing it.

That's exactly what I've been doing. Isn't horrible with an 100 CF tank but I would still like to get it fixed.
