Does anyone know anything about this? Are any OHV areas affected?

BLM Carson City, Nevada Field Office Consolidated Resource Management Plan

BLM is currently amending its Resource Management Plan (RMP) for over 5.2 million acres of public lands managed by the Carson City, Nevada Field Office. Comments are due by June 27, 2002 in the BLM Carson City Field Office on proposed changes in the consolidated RMP.

The internal BLM scoping process identified sixteen issues for consideration. Off-highway vehicle use and management is one of the identified issues.

This is an opportunity to be involved in promoting recreation in these areas. Express your interest in obtaining accurate up-to-date maps, appropriate signage and good descriptions of legal areas to recreate.

Your verbal comments will be taken by BLM during scheduled public meetings. Notice of public meetings will be announced in the local news media and sent to those listed on the BLM mailing list 15 days prior to the scheduled meeting.

Written comments may be submitted to:

I have been attending the weekly BLM Pinenut Meetings and these RMP meetings were for the public to get comments on record. At least that is what I was led to believe. Yes there are OHV areas involved, but I don't know that anything will be resolved at this RMP meeting. It would be a good time o put in your concerns for the diminishing OHV opportunities and preserving the ones we currently have. I am thinking Sand Mountain (among others) may be invloved. I know Tom Crawford and have sent him an email requesting more specifics.

My email from Tom:

Brian: I received a call from Jon Crowley, w/ Friends of Sand Mountain and
from the voiceMail Jon left me, sounds like they are thinking the Pine Nut
Plan Amendment is a Recreation Area Management Plan. It is not, nor does it
include Sand Mountain. The boundary of the Pine Nut planning area doesn't
extent eastward beyond Smith Valley and Rawe Peak to the north (give or
take).

The Carson City Consolidated Resource Management Plan does, in fact, cover
Sand Mountain as it does all of the 5.2 (+/-) million acres administered by
the Carson City BLM Field Office. Other than establishing Sand Mountain
Recreation Area as a fee area, to my knowledge. Jon knows of this and has
been working with Chris Miller, the Recreation Planner in our office who is
working on the fee program there.

I'll also send Jon an eMail message answering his questions as well.
