: anyone looking for axles?
Rockzar 06-17-2007, 06:54 PM Lemme know if I should move this, but I figured someone in the Cruiser forum should know about it first.
Located in Half Moon Bay, California.
I am passing this along for my neighbor who is getting rid of his Ford supercab F 2 (or is it a 3?) 50.. Its a big, long ass four wheel drive truck. The motor is blown but has a newer tranny. Axles are in good shape. Body is decent, etc. But I figured someone would want to scrap it for the axles.
He told me a few hundy will take it.
Lemme know if youre interrested.
cheers-
Dustin

Dustin No, the F250 normally has an 8-lug D44 or equivalent; I was lucky once to buy an F250 with a D60 front - it turned out that the seller had problems with the D44 and swapped in a D60 - lucky for me :D
If it is an F350 then :grinpimp: yes, that should be a D60 (drivers side drop and hi-pinion).

what year would it have become ball joints rather than kingpins? Seems like that was late 80s/early 90s. [not that I'd complain about a cheap front 60, either way]:grinpimp:

I don't know which year, but I seem to recall it was the mid-1990's. I never seem to buy stuff that new, so don't worry about it too much :D Isn't there an axle tech section on POR? That might help identify the change-over year.
Rockzar 06-18-2007, 11:17 AM okay- thanks for the heads up about the tech section D60 write up. Man- theres alot of info in there. Here's a copy paste of the identification part of the article for Ford:
------------------------------------------------
Ford
1978-79 F-350 and some F-250 (Snofighter and High GVW packages)
1986-88 F-350 with dual rear wheels (DRW)
1988-91.5 F-350 with single rear wheels (SRW)
1992-95 F-350 (all) (balljoint)
1996.5-98 F-350 (all) (balljoint)
2000 F350/F450/F550 DRW (balljoint, metric 8x170mm wheel bolt pattern F350 / 8x220mm F450/F550, unit bearing hub)
2000.5 F350/F450/F550 DRW (balljoint, metric 8x170mm wheel bolt pattern F350 / 8x220mm F450/F550, unit bearing hub)
2001 F350 DRW (balljoint, metric 8x170mm wheel bolt pattern, unit bearing hub)
2001-02 F450/F550 DRW (balljoint, metric 8x220mm wheel bolt pattern, unit bearing hub)
2002 F250/F350 SRW (balljoint, metric 8x170mm wheel bolt pattern, unit bearing hub)
2002 F450/F550 DRW (balljoint, metric 8x220mm wheel bolt pattern, unit bearing hub)
All these Ford versions were drivers side differential, reverse-cut (high pinion) gears, and kingpin knuckles to 1991.5 and balljoints thereafter. Most Ford D60s are internal style hubs, but external type lockout versions do exist. 2000 and later Ford D60s have balljoints, a metric wheel lug pattern of 8x170mm up to F350 and 8x220mm for F450/F550, different brakes and spindles, sealed "unit-bearing hubs", hub-centric wheels, different length axleshafts from the earlier D60s, and larger Superduty specific tie rod ends. From 2000 on, the Ford D60 front axle is also known as the Model 60F2000+ or the 248M. 248 just happens to be the equivalent in millimeters of 9.75" - the diameter of the D60s ring gear.

I'll take a look tonight.

Rockzar 07-08-2007, 02:05 PM bump..
The axles are 60's.
I spoke to my neighbor again today. The truck is a 1991 F350. 60's all around. I am going to buy it from him today, but can't keep it.
Make me an offer. :D You'll have to have it towed home from Half Moon Bay, CA 94019. Google maps it if you are not sure where this is.
Axles are all stock. Rear axle had a rear bearing fixed at some point. I don't know if it was a wheel bearing or in the diff.
Body, tranny, t-case are all in good shape. Motor needs a rebuild. Tires are in good shape. I think it has BFG AT's. somewhere around 33" on aluminum rims.
I'll move this to the for sale section if noone wants these. I figure I would give my Cruiser friends first dibs.
cheers!
Dustin
