I have a 98 gmc 3/4 ton with the 5.7 vortec engine. My problem is that it won't start . I was driving down the road and the engine just shut off. It will crank over but not start. I can hear the fuel pump run when the key is turned on but it sounds different than it usually does. I tried squirting starting fluid in the throttle body and it starts then. Any help would greatly be appreciated!

I'd start by checking my fuel filter and if that's not clogged, then figure on it being the pump.

Good luck

I'm not sure where you're pump is mounted, but here's an alternative if it's mounted inside the tank. Holley makes several in-line fuel pumps. I paid about $100 for mine and it came with a seperate fuel regulator. It will feed through the old unit and trail replacement will be mucho easier. Just a thought. (plus it comes with a 5HP gain from the sticker). :flipoff2:
