Here's the plan. keep and eye out for a straight commando tub...no front clip or frame needed. I want to slap a cj7 clip on it and fab up a clean functional tube chassis. Inside will be a 5.0 AOD bronco 20 or some gay chain case. front and rear 44s or a rear 9" cut down to 58" rear 60" front. arb's f/r 37" mtr's. this thing's objective is to hop in anyday and look good while being able to get up to 20mpg. It will have cruise leather a/c and all the goodies :D I think it's time a build a clean rig w/ paint and whatnots :D whatcha think? half cab or full soft top? anyone got a tub for me :D or something clean I can f-ck w/ :D

too bad you're not in NJ.
I can hear 2 commandos rusting away from here.
and you should think about using a th400 and quadratrac trasnfer case. people can't GIVE those things away, they're so cheap. and rear offset axles are usually free to a good home, too.

Sillyneck I'm in the process of building myself my daily driver XJ that I can take on the trails

Well it's my daily driver already but I'm doing the 6+ inches of lift. Axles from a 4 cyclinder XJ to get me non c clip rear and 4.10 gears. I put a 4 to 1 in and picked up a nice conferr roof rack.
I just need to finish my rock sliders and make front and rear bumpers that can survive my full contact driving style.

I'm planning on recharging the Air conditioning too:flipoff2:

i'm doing the same thing with a 1963 Willys station wagon. my plan is to find a 93-95 YJ or XJ with 4.0L and AX-15. throw in the CJ widetrack D30 and D44 i have laying around, a little AC, decent interior makeover, and i have a custom-retro crusier. should be fun! matt

Or how about a Taildragger (Scrambler)? Tubs are easier to find, and innards too...Can have a full hard top, half hard top, soft half top, full soft top...Long wheelbase for towing shiate...I am looking for one myself:cool2:

AOD and a Ford (borg warner) chain driven T-case? is this gonna be push button 4x4 :barf: to go with the bling bling leather and cushy cruise control?

I don't know how your gonna get 20 MPG outtah anything turning 37s much less a 302 turning 37s... maybe you meant 20 gallons to the mile :flipoff2:

my jeep on 38's got 21.7 mpg on it's best run w/ the 5.0 and no o/d. So I think i can get consistent 20 out of a rig w/ lighter stuff.
