I have a chance to get a 14 bolt for my 86 Suburban, but it's a dually from a 1 ton. Can this axle be converted to SRW and used in my Burb? Or should I find a stock SRW? Thanks,
Dean

What year? I think the dually P/U rears (meaning not dually C&C) are the widest of all 14FF. The C&C is 63" wide, the P/U (non duals) is 67.5ish wide and the dually is like 70+ inches wide. The dually rears have the same hubs as the C&C's to pull the tires inward, if you put SRW hubs on it would widen it....if memeory serves me right.

As always.....go here. I would read it to you but I have a h/a.

Yup... my dually pickup 14b (from a '92) came "stock" at 72" wide with DRW hubs. Putting SRW hubs on it, I increased it's width to 76" wide.

immediate ansewer is no you cant, the springs on dually are closer together because the drums are closer to the center line of the axle, to use that axle you will have to cut off all you spring hangers on the frame and get 1t/dually ones.

it would be a lot easier to get a srw from a 3/4t/1t.

you can do it if you swap the hub, change to discs, move the perches on the axle, weld the disc brackets in the right spot, no bolt on style

But, if he swapped the hubs to SRW hubs wouldn't he be too wide? That housing I believe is wider than the "other" housings....correct me if I am mistaken. I thought the SRW/C&C had the same housing, and the van and the DRW (p/u) differed? Van and SRW use the same hubs and DRW/C&C used the same hubs.

Hey thanks guys. I checked the 14 bolt bible but was still confused, so I asked here. I will keep looking for a SRW axle.

SRW and C&C have the same housing, newer dually pickup axles are significantly wider (72" wms-wms with DRW hubs) and Van's (box van) are a little wider than the SRW/C&C, but narrower than the newer dually p/u housing. They're about 70" wide. If the housing is new enough to have the slide-on drums, you're stuck with those hubs. The slide-on drum hubs have a different bearing spacing and therefore the spindles are a bit different and the standard SRW/DRW hubs will not interchange.
