Update to Jeep Anti-theft ADE System

Back in January I put a design and document out on how to automatically disable and enable my 97 TJ.

I called this "Theft Protection" system the ADE System.

Since posting this write-up on my rudimentary web site for folks to pull down I have heard back from well over 100 Jeepers who have built and used this system

All worked fine but for two.

My design had intentionally left out a diode to control "relay coil fly-back voltages".

I did this on purpose to keep the circuit as simple as possible, but not before I tested this by building 12 units and installing them and finding they all worked.

Well, I guess I didn't test enough, as two Jeepers did indeed require this diode.

I have updated this document, and also added a by-pass switch to this simple circuit.

If anyone would like to download it it can be found in MS word format at

http://home.att.net/~email.id/wsb/html/view.cgi-home.html-.html

Frank

PS: If anyone cares to host this write-up on their site I would be grateful.

Glad you found it to be useful.

I doubt you will have any problems installing it, but if you do shoot me an email.

Awesome write up! I was just planning to interupt my fuel pump relay with a toggle, and I have heard of something similiar to this but have always been intimidated by the wiring/relay, etc. Perfect timing for me.

One question: When connecting more than one wire to a relay pin, what's the best way to do this? crimp the ends of both wires into the same female blade connector? Try to squeeze two connectors onto the same pin? Wiring is like black magic to me. Thanks

Hi Sean,

My apologies, I did not see your question until just now.

If you use the exact parts I used from Radio Shack, you will have both a relay and a relay socket. All the wiring will go to the relay socket.

While some folks will used the crimp on connectors for the wires and then push them on the blades of the relay socket, I strongly suggest that you solder these wires.

Soldering is not difficult to do. I'm sure a friend can show you how in 10 minutes or less. The solder joint isn't going to come loose, nor fall out on you.

If your interested, I am working on another ADE System that will eliminate the reed switch and magnet.

To trip the new system all you will need to is "touch a very ordinary looking dash board trim screw with your finger" (instead of swiping the magnet) and then your Jeep will start.

It will be a little bit more complex to build, but I believe within the ability of most folks.

I'm not don't testing it yet, but so far it works great in my Jeep.

Thanks, Frank!

With the thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of labor in my jeep, it would be a bummer to have it stolen and stripped. Thanks again for your generosity in posting this. Good karma comin your way.
