I have just swapped a 2 barrel intake on my 72 cj. The old manifolds on the 70's jeeps were combined right below the carbarator, maninly i think to heat the intake. Now this 85 intake i have installed looks like it runs coolant through it. What does everyone think about not running the coolant through this intake. My water pump and such is not set up for this and it seems like its a waist to go through the hassle to run coolant lines to the intake. What does everyone else think, was there a proven reason to have the coolant in the intake?
Thanks

The 3 intakes I have here in the shop:a '81, '83, and '90 all have a plate on the bottom of the intake and seperate from the exhaust manifold. My guess is warm water was circulated thru that '85 intake base.........norm

What do you mean your pump isnt set up for it?
waterpumps dont have a switch on them to regulate the rate of coolant flow :D
Personally, i would just hook the lines up and run em :smokin:

Well i mean since i never had hoses running to the intake originally and my pump is not set up that way i would need to tee off my system some how to run the lines over to it.
Boogoos, i aggree there is a seperation between the intake and manifold, that started in 80 or 81. Not sure what would happen if i didn't use the coolant to the intake.

I assume we are talking about a 258 I-6.
I replaced my orginal intake & exhaust with a mid 80's intake exhaust. For watering up the intake manifold I routed the heater hoses through the manifold. Works good.
I check around about not watering up the manifold but everyone was against it.
Good luck, with a MC 2100 this is a great upgrade!
