: Weird D44?

I was at one of the local pic-n-pulls this past weekend, and ran across a D44, 8 lug, passenger side drop. (Front end)

What was weird was that instead of a hub, or even an "auto" hub, it looked like the rear flanges on a FF rear end, where the hubs would go?

It was complete, and it looked to be in good shape, but the hub "thingies" threw me.

Anyone know what it is?

I bet it was one of Dodges full time 44 front ends

from what I remember, the late 70's Dodge full time axles had a big-ass nut in the middle of the hub ala YJ/TJ

It probably had slugs instead of lockouts.

It's just a drive flange for a bolt on style hub. It's an older design, they were used on all 3/4 ton trucks (Chevy, Ford, Dodge Jeep, IH) at some point in time. Passenger side diff rules out Ford though. You can get bolt on style hubs for it or convert it to internal style.

Where the hell is there a pick and pull at in Indiana?

Aaron, any junkyard that you go at is a pic-n-pull. Well, most of them.

There are a couple of 'snobbie' junkyards (Wrecks for instance) that they won't allow you to pull your own stuff, but most every other one that I've been to is a pic and pull.

if its the front axle i'm thinking of (blue?), then its a 3/4 ton D44 out of a late 70's Jeep J-20. i have been trying to buy that axle for about a year, along with the mating D60 thats sitting right next to it. the guy keeps telling me his friend is going to buy it...i ask everytime i go there.

is this the axle you are talking about? i think you would have to use some sort of external hub if you wanted lock-outs.

Yep it's a dodge axle.

JoshC just picked one up last weekend.
