: Rubicon work day: June 29th
Rubicrawler 06-05-2002, 10:02 AM We are planning a work day on the Rubicon for June 29th. The goal is to repair 3 mud pits that are located just before Walker Hill and just after Walkers Rock. Please see the following thread for the discussion
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/show...&threadid=58829
It is not our intention to completely fill the pits. Our goal is to simply make them passable and to block off the bypass trails that have been started. We will use rock and soil from the surrounding areas to help mitigate further errossion.
We need as many volunteers as we can get! The more workers we have the more we will accomplish.
Let the sign up begin!
TIA for your support!
The Rockslut 06-05-2002, 10:23 AM I will be there! Sack up! Its time to work on the trail and keep it open. This isnt the end of the year clean up. No its time to fix the problems now.

66CJdean 06-06-2002, 05:06 PM As I noted earlyer that I will be up there the 15th with a good crew that could get started but my question is do you want us to. I the 29th the day that we have the clearence so don't worry about doing anything on the 15th or can we get something done then?????

Dean- We don't have clearence from the USFS as of yet. I have a phone call into Rich Platt and I'm waiting for his call back. I don't expect any problems but I'll be sure to let him know that our work plans include your party on the 15th.
I'll post the results of my discussion as soon as I talk with Mr. Platt.
66CJdean 06-07-2002, 12:53 PM Thanks. I don't plan to get that much done on the 15th but I do want to take care any spot that will continue to get worse between the 15th and the 29th. I don't want to do any work that might cause us more work on the 29th but I want to do something that will prevent more damage.

JerryRigs 06-14-2002, 09:53 AM If I can get a few of us to go is it better we bring our own rides or is it better we "CARPOOL" any thought on that? Also what tools are needed and what work (besides the mud pit filling i guess) will we be doing?

Carpool if you wish, it never hurts.
With regard to the tools, see this thread:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60573
The work will include:
moving rock
back filling dirt
cutting logs
dragging logs
etc.
Thanks for your interest!
66CJdean 06-16-2002, 10:26 PM Well we were able to get some of the work done on the trail this weekend. What we did was pull the downed trees from the stream crossing about 1/2 mile after Ellis and it is now totaly free to flow. After that we pulled the logs out of the next small stream about 1/4 mile before Walker rock and di some backfill work on the part of the mud hole at that steam crossing. So thanks to Big Rich for helping ROK RNR and to the club buddies that were there to help. There is still plenty to do on the 29th. I didn't have a pick and shovel to do any real work on the mud pits so that is why we did the tree work.
Rubicrawler 06-17-2002, 08:43 AM Thanks Dean!
In your opinion, what tools will we need the most of?
66CJdean 06-17-2002, 05:07 PM I think the list you put up on the Rubicon trail page is quite good but what I think needs to be done is the placing of the trees and rocks so chain, shovels, and picks. We need to remove the dirt ramp that has formed at the bottom so that we can build up the bottom with rock insted of the earth ramp they are forming again.
I think putting in the rock and trees is going to be the ticket because the water comes from the snow that collects in them not flowing water that has no place to go. We took care of any stream flow restrictions this last weekend but we need to add one more mud hole to the list that is just after a stream crossing about 1/4 mile before Walker. I know it has been mentioned before but I just want to be sure that everyone knows there are 3 that need to be worked on.

Dean- It's on the list! Thanks :)

We won't be blocking the trail, but I would not be surprised if some encourage you to stop and help out for a bit.
Can you afford an hour or two of your time to keep your trail open?
rockmutt 06-20-2002, 04:51 PM why not, ill work to wheel:usa:
rockmutt 06-20-2002, 04:52 PM what is it that you are repairing?
Dan-H 06-20-2002, 05:08 PM Basically grunt work to keep the main trail open.
make couple of pits passible and block the bypasses around them
several threads here:

Hope to see you there. The more that show up, the faster it will get done!
