: SLC Peeps - urgent rescue help needed!

Yes, it's a double-post from Chit-chat...but I'm posting here anyway. :D

Ok, ok...so it's a rescue for ME.

I just spent 4 days out in the west desert of Utah, got the truck stuck in the salt mud, had to be rescued by the Search and Rescue and got a ride in a helicopter. :flipoff2:

Had to leave the truck...but it's in a very remote location and will be safe for at least a day.

The beast weighs 7500 lbs. and is stuck in some sticky clay/mud/salt crap up to the axles...just a hair below the frame. The diffs are dragging a bit. I'm in a not-so-dry riverbed (the reason I got stuck is that I *thought* it was dry), down a 3-4 foot embankment. NO winching anchors (ask me about burying a tire 4-5 times only to watch it slowly come unearthed), so this will need to be a multiple vehicle winching recovery. Heavy vehicles preferred. Big winches a necessity.

My plan is to head out early Sunday morning and get the thing unstuck. When we hit pavement we're only going to be about 45 minutes East of Wendover, so I would be definitely up for buying the whole crew lunch/dinner/whatever.

The location...or as close as I'm willing to divulge, is on the north end of the Silver Island Mountains...east of Wendover.

Seriously, this is in the middle of NOWHERE...I can almost guarantee you that this is a location in Utah that you have never been. If you have been here, you understand how tough it is to leave a truck out there.

Well, I have to go back and get the pig, so I'm going to leave on Sunday morning around 9-ish. I'd have people call my cell phone, but I left it in the truck.

Call the house or PM...254-6648. I'll spend the day tomorrow gathering stuff I'll need (I killed both batteries trying to winch myself out...now the truck won't start...plus I killed what little power I had signalling rescuers and overflying aircraft).

Anyway, it's a LONG story, here's a pic.

Thanks to anyone who feels like volunteering!

If you don't get it out, it'll make a nice Diner:flipoff2:

Good luck with the recovery. I had to leave the Tonka in the desert in a couple of times and once out in the jungle in Malaysia, so I know how you feel.

If I was closer, I'd be there to help. Good luck.

Didn't anyone ever tell you not to "wheel alone"?

If I was closer, I'd buy some beer and come watch you get unstuck :flipoff2:

Good luck Mike, that sucks. Glad you made it out though....this sort of thing can turn serious in a hurry.

You're not my mother.

Would you buy that beer in Utah or Nevada? :shaking:

Oh, nice avatar. I love their music.

SlowRVR: Yes, it can get serious in a hurry. Even the recovery, which many people are just taking for granted, has me a bit nervous. Not so much for my truck's sake, but for those who are willing to help. We still have a bit of work to do, with some dangerous equipment. A small mistake can have big consequences even now.

Thanks.

Glad you made it.

What were you doing there with the big beast anyway, running moonshine?

Ooh, worthless without pics.

Where exactly were you? Unless it's some secret Victoria's Secret model photography area, in which case we want pics!

Edit: Glad you made it out. Everything in good shape?

sorry we couldn't help. Like keith said, I was in moab with Lane over the weekend, got home late sunday and flew out to VA for work for the rest of the week.

I'm glad you got your truck out but most importantly you are safe.

what's the saying?? never travel alone?!

what's the saying?? never travel alone?!

Problem is, it'll be impossible to take that advice. I just have to be prepared for the worst when I *do* go out alone.

My schedule is so erratic, that for me to wait to go out with others when their schedules allowed, I'd never go out and get this book done.

Besides...no one would put up with sitting in one location waiting for me to decide to take a picture...sometime for hours (or days...).

But thanks anyway. :flipoff2:

Would a Pull-Pal have helped?

I hear yeah Micheal....I am sorry I couldn't make it, bad timing but isn't that how it goes every goddamn time.

BTW in the pic looks like he tried to use a spare tire and a pull pall. The soft salty sand was just too soft.

If I wasn't in a different state, country, hemisphere and didn't have my truck in 98 different pieces, I'd come and help.:D

Had to let you know it's not because I'm a snob.:flipoff2:

When I told my kids who I was talking to they remembered your campfire songs.

I'm thinking I need to learn to play the gee-tawhr and then I'll have some company for myself when I'm out there stuck. I probably could have learned to play during all of the time I was sitting there bored out of my mind.

Dougal, I kept looking at the horizon wondering when you'd show up to rescue me...I know you're not a snob. :flipoff2:
