I was looking for a t stearing set-up fro my dodge and ran across a 1967 jeep/kieser truck/ambulance 1 1/4 ton. The axles look bullet proof. Where can I find out what the thing has under it. Its an M725. any help thanks

60 front, 70 rear. 5.89 gears but it's to good to be true. small u joints in the front, coarse spline in the 70 hope this helps mike

gunracer is correct. I did a little homework on these axles last year before i got rockwells. They aer not as strong as contemporary 70's and 60's and you can't swap new parts in 'em. Honestly not a good choice for wheeling...

The front u-joint are the same size as a standard D60. The rear axles are 23 spline, the front inners are 30 spline, front outers are 21 spline. The front inner can be upgraded to a 35 spline. Of course they are the big military lug pattern with drum brakes, but can be converted to 8 lug with disc brakes. The best thing about the axles is the price of replacement parts. AB Linn sells the complete new axle shaft assembly for $50. That is the inner, the outer, with a brand new spicer joint. The spindles are $22. All this is military surplus parts. Milemarker makes lockout hubs for them. They can be made into a good axle , but they are wide and closed knuckle also. My friend has a narrowed one under a CJ-7, I had one under my truck. I kept breaking outer stub shafts, so I went to rockwells.

My friend has them under his cj and he is rolling on 42's...no problems yet. That is a fact though, he can get replacement shafts for like $8 bucks and the whole setup for $50. In the rear 70, it can be upgraded to 35 spline right???? He says he has 35 spline in the rear. The front is closed knuckle, but has had no problems...yet!!!
There is actually one of those kaiser ambulances close by, do you know what kind of xfer case it has??? The one i saw was twin sticked.
oh well

Hey toploader4x4...do you have a hybrid chevy...fullsize frame with s10 cab, red, and w/ 38's, i think you might be the guy who sold the military axles to my friend w/ the cj....i think you are the guy??

Your buddy bought those from a friend of mine. His rear axle came from a ford f-350. The axles are 7.17 geared, welded rear, lockrite in the front, if you all are the right people. Anyway I believe the Kaiser came with a np-200 transfer case.

Thats us...so then his rear would be a 35 spline 70. I don't know how much he will like the 7.17 though, he wants to do a chevy engine conversion...i don't think the pinion will be able to hold up, i told him to stay with his 304.
Whats the deal w/ a np200....is it crap??

Hey Kevin,
How do you like the rockwells? The Scrambler is finally in the woods, just need to get more seat time. Are you going to be up at the quarterly meating at Windrock?

The np 200 should be a good t-case, just old. You would probably have to get parts from a military parts dealer. A friend of mine is building a np 202 out of an old International truck. We are having somewhat of a problem with parts for it. Justin, I should be there. Will you? Did you get that cut tire fixed?

I think the NP200 is a predecessor to the 205, with straight cut gears(my M715 whined like crazy) and an offset rear output. reportedly there is some way to make an offset NP205 using some of the 200 parts, so I suppose you could make a bevel/helical cut gear np200 so it would be stronger. Has the same 1.96:1 low range.

Kevin,
Hopefully I'll be there....I'm driving to WY starting on Monday and I'm supposed to be back on Friday, but I'll see how that goes, if I make I'll look for you. I ended up not fixing the tire, I was looking for two 39.5 tsl's and run the two good boggers in the rear and tsls's up front, but I ended up running up on a good deal on a set of 42's that I did some tradeing on, and then sold the boggers to a buddy of mine. He is going to run them on his "hybrid dakota" with 39.5 boggers rear and 40 in. gumbo's in the front.

friend of mine is in the process of bobbing a Kaiser... and throwing 38s on it with a bunch of other mods. it wheeled damn good for an almost stock truck a few weeks ago, only thing he did to it was groove the stock bar grip tires and throw in a rear locker.
