Hey im from New Zealand im 15 years of age and iv'e got a disco 1. Im running 34" simex jungle trekkers. Im on a tight budget (as you are when you still at school ) Me and another member Turoa (also 15) have just finished putting nissan axles under it and it goes awsome :smokin:. anyway my next mod hopefully will be to chop it into a ute and lose some of that big overhanging rear end. Im just looking for some more pics of what other people have done to the rear ends of their disco's for more ideas

Regards
James Chapman

James, there was an article in an issue of LRM a couple months ago about a guy in Oz who built a tray-back ute from a Disco 2. It turned out really nicely, although I suspect his budget was pretty big.

Ahhh what you can do with a 3 door body..

I've chopped one www.wahsbrook.net

To do over again It would have been a ute. It woudl also be 8-10" longer and I wouldn't have worried so much about the departure angle, by about 6-8"

I really like disco-dino's truck which is number 2. number 3 is nice but i want like a tube tray etc. and i want to lose as much of that big ass as i can. Im going to be adding an exo cage similar to this one as well to protect me and the truck when i roll :D

Disco utes ROCK...

I like all three and if I do it again...I'd stick to what I did...not pretty by any means, but can pass "some" countries' laws, does the job, and clears the tires...

#3 is so clean it'll have to be my daily driver! #1 I'm planning something similar in the US (when Garage-space prices in NYC drop below 4 figures or I relocate!)

Let me know if you need any help from my experience...

More detailed pics here: http://www.dubai4x4.com/modules.php?set_albumName=albuo98&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php

Cheers

Panels moulded in carbon kevlar weave, tray back.

Will try and get some newer pictures now it's a lot more complete.

Is that truck LHD? Looks like it in the first pic.

I can't wait to see more pics.

Oh, if SWMBO would only give into letting me permanently remove the back seats. Oh what I could do with my rusty Disco.

Seeing your in NZ, check out what your neighbors did to a Disco.

LRM had a story on it. http://www.lrm.co.uk/archive/backissues/backissues2007/2007.04.html

Ooooh, flatbed. Weird, I was just thinking about the exact same thing this morning, but wondering how it would look like with a bed, kind of like the AEV Brute:

From the article, it converts to a flatbed, it does have sides on it that can make it a box and them be removed. When i was in Brisbane i saw a lot of these utes but most were Landcruisers and Toyota/ Nissan trucks that had been converted.
It is an interesting article, although short.

After using the roof to seal off the cab on my Disco, I think that is a good, cheap alternative that may be used...maybe without chopping it off one can simply fold it over :)...less welding!
