Has anyone ever fried something specific when winching, and what was it, electrical component wise, that you did?
I've never had an electrical problem before per se, that was quite so weird...(other than the usual generic clicky starter, poor ground problems and of course the ECU capacitor meltdown:p)
Was helping a couple buddies winch a 'kick up onto a trailer today. The battery that was going to be used for the winch was dead, so we hooked up jumper cables from my battery (red optima) to the dead battery that had the winch cables already hooked up to it. (blue optima)
Well, as soon as the winch was started, my voltmeter in the cab crackled and sparked, then the needle went all jittery instead of steady like it has always been.
Winching went on, no problems at all.
Went to restart my sammy later, and it was dead. Main fuse was blown. (I had many years ago replaced the fusible link with an inline 30 amp blade fuse, and have never, ever, had a fuse blow or any problems with it.
Replaced the fuse and she started right up. Parked it, went to restart it, and dead. Fuse blown.
I removed the voltmeter, thinking it was somehow causing the problem 'cause it still is acting abnormal. Didn't change. Vehicle starts right up, but must instantaneously blow the fuse, because as soon as I turn off the ignition and go to restart, it's dead, and I have to put a fresh fuse in to get it to start:confused::mad3:
Any ideas?
