Talked with Bobby Long this afternoon and he says that I can use his mini truck birfs in my 76 axle, but have to use a bolt and washer on the end instead of a clip. Anyone else doing this or should I just get the LC versions?? Any thoughts? I wanna send him my money order tomorrow!

Thanks,

Yep, a fender washer and a bolt lets you use his birfs. Although some grinding on the inner knuckle housing might be in order (not too sure about that, I don't think so but..)

Or you could get mini hubs and bolt them on. That is the only difference. The older LC hubs are taller then the minis..

I have a fender washer on one side and the circlip on the other.
I know it is getto but..

on an interesting side note the Toyota Circlips are NOT compatible with the shorter warn hubs (mini style or later LC) without some minor trimming to the c-clip.
Ask me how I know ;)

Jason are you saying the difference in the clip or washer/bolt is the hub? Or at least as far as the mini birfs go?

If that is the case, then using the mini birfs and mini hubs, allows the stock circlip and life is good.

I do think the axle will need to be ground some for the birfs to fit regardless of clip issue. The birfs got bigger in 79, so earlier axles won't accept them without the grinding. If you grind make sure the birf slides right in "after" you have torqued the steering arm and lower caps on.

Sean, look me up if you want to go asin hubs, I may know where a set are.

Yes...make sure you fit the birfs after the torqing, definitly before you add any grease to the situation...ask me why I know this! DOH!:D

Yep, this is what Bobby told me. A little dremel work should make em fit fine!!

I am running Warn's on both sides,
One is a later model then the other. so it is shorter..

The difference is in the clip. The Asin hubs are designed to use the little hole type circlip. (two holes in the end of the clip to get it on and off) Warn's use a blank c clip that does not have the little holes in it. I like The warns better.

If you run the older LC hubs you will use the fenderwasher. Newer LC hubs and mini hubs use the clip.

If you run mini hubs you will be perfect.

I need a set...
