IH dudes! I'm looking for axles to swap into a cj6. Well it's a cj8 frame that will be shortened and have a cj6 tub set on it. I'm looking for axles. I've found the below axles. Are these any good for a cj swap? I know I'll have to outboard the springs. Can I swap disc brakes on the rear? I assume a lots of lockers are avaliable and I'd have no problem with gear ratios. A Dana 60 is a Dana 60 as far as I know. Until I buy one and find out it's the special one with no gears and no lockers.......

5x5.5 lug dana 44 disk brake with both flat tops
5x5.5 dana 60 30 spline drum brakes. and some kind of traction device. gov lock maybe

both I believe have 4.10's in the diffs.
they were out of a 74 international pick up
they are currently in a 69 travelall

I'm going to cross post in the jeep section to see what everyone thinks.

I'll tell ya what I think. I think you should head outside with your little IH pirateing Jeep friends and go play in traffic for awhile with lawn darts, at night. Then come back inside and eat a few knifes and wash them down with a nice tall glass of bleach. Then fire up the old computer and give the old search a try.

WTF are you asking and why here?

They are great axles and you'll be extemely happy with them. Brakes are cheap and easy to find, axle shafts are a dime a dozen, and you have your choice of just about any locker or gear ratio.

I have front and rear Dana 44s for sale. They have the awesome stopping brake drums on all 4 corners. They will make your heep unstoppable :cool2:

Sounds like you're a little butt hurt. :shaking:

I honestly don't know why you'd be defending these "covetted IH parts" so vigorously. I mean they're practically junk in they're stock form... who cares who puts them under whatever?

The 44 front is going to be next to impossible to find brake parts for, but swap everything from the knuckles out for Chevy or Ford stuff and that'll solve the brake issue and give you stronger internal locking hubs. Of course you'll still have harder to find inner shafts and would likely have to buy custom shafts if you break one.

The rear is just plain junk that's only worth its weight in scrap iron. It's a D60-2 which is basically a D60 center section with D44 semi-float axle shafts. You'd have to pay me to haul it off.

I've looked for two hours and can't find much support for a 30 spline D60 so I guess the search continues.

Mechanos - Thanks for the answer and the help. You just confirmed what I've found by the complete lack of support by the aftermarket.

The rest of you sound like you hang out in the Jeep hardcore section a bit. Don't worry, I think I'll let you guys keep this set of scout axles.

And it's almost Tuesday here.............:D
