Ok, I am in dire need of help, so I am asking this hear, otherwise I wouldn't, so please don't be too rough on me. I am trying to drop in my new IFS diff I ordered from Randy's. I looked in it and noticed that it does not have the outer-most roller bearings in it that I thought it would have. In place of that, it has a solid piece of machined metal with a spiral machinged into it. I am thinking this is maybe a cheap alternative to bearings or something. Am I right? I need to get my junk together to go wheeling this weekend starting tomorrow night...PLEASE help me:(

does it look like brass? Sounds like a bushing...

Doesn't look like brass. I am guessing steel or aluminum or somehting like that. I can snap a pic if someone can post it or just look at it for me.

I think you should snap a pic cause that makes NO sense

Some of the IFS front ends had bearings and some had bushings. Did you send yours in and ask to have the R&P put in it. If not it sounds like they sent you one that was already built. Mine had the bushings and I ran it hard for two years with out a problem. I sold it to a guy back east about 3 years ago and I heard from him last year and it is still going strong, even with GG gears in it.:D

If you're talking about the passenger side of the diff, yes, there is no bearing there on the short side shaft. It looks kinda funky, but I wheeled mine with 4.88s and a lockrite with 33" tires - and a dual crawl box set up for a few years. I never had any trouble out of it, although I do know people who have broken on that side.

I dont think Toyota took a lot of time trying to figure that one out, that's one place on that model that I can say I believe they took a short cut on.

Put it together and have fun wheelin' it.:)

Nope no bearing ,its held in by the carrier, like any other diff.
There is no need have anthing there actually all the stress is on the carrier where the axle slips into.

I'll send ya pic of an factory diff, you'll see no bearings or bushings.

Ok, thanks guys...I got in contact with Jim Brink and sent him some pics and he got me all squared away. I really appreciate all the help. The thing that threw me is that my factory diff had the bearings and the new one did not.
