: Jerks sometimes in reverse?

1974 Scout II w/258 seems to jerk in reverse ever since I got larger tires - 33's. Not sue why. Sometimes its really harsh even if I let the clutch slip some. In fact the vibration trashed the ujoint closest to the xfer case. I do have lockers front and rear. Could this be the problem? I was thinking drive line windup. May take a look at the tranny mount to see if it didn't shit out. Thoughts?

Someone told me that it could because of the larger tires throwing off the gear ratio. I thought the ratio for a T-18 in first would be lower than the ratio in reverse. I don't have these problems when I move forward, just in reverse and not all, but most of the time.

What do you mean by jerk? We have lots of those around here.

I'd take a look at the tranny mounts first. Then maybe be sure the rear spring mounts and bushings look ok.

You might get a better response at http://www.binderbulletin.org/

Then come back here when you want to build your pig :D
