I gotta ask, why the watts linkages, why the radius arms?

If you spent the coin for axles, why the fuck are you using stock bullshit suspension? Thats kind of retarded.

mog axles are pretty cheap. especially overseas.
probably only a couple hundies. a mog build is at least budget....
at least he isn't trying to 4link it.......:flipoff2:

im trying to make a bolt on convertion axle,so that i can sell them to other d2 owners , the idea is that you can swap your standard crap for one of these and some 40s with no messing about just a few hours labour, you would just drive your d2 into my shop in the morning and drive out the same day on portals with 40s that are fully lockable.

Junkyddog11

ahhhh....now I get it.

directions to the shop please. Never mind the wet bit I'll just get a snorkle (for me as the slut already has one). :flipoff2:

nah, seriously good for you mate. Great idea. Sort of a "drive through" axle swap shop.

what are you going to do about the electronics? NAS D2's need input from the abs to operate without throwing all kinds of codes and kicking up all kinds of problems...

i have some custom relutor rings on the shafts ,it uses standard sensors. the spedo and ace signal is recalibrated from the slabs ecu with a electrical device from mark at www.discoparts.com

so to make this clear: you had custom tone rings made for the axle? I'm not familar with the mog axle, but how are you mounting the sensor so it read the tone ring? Also, I looked on that site and didn't see anything like you mentioned....more info

thats right , the axle is cut and a lower plate is fitted above the ring that is fixed to the shaft, the ring is in two halves that bolt together , the standard abs sensor is used. if you contact mark at disco parts by email just say you want to correct the speed after fitting bigger wheels he will give you more info on this part.

06-29-2007, 03:57 PM
so you can set the mog axle up with abs calipers? Anways, don't give a shit about tc/hdc/abs, I'm using hard lockers, and I'm not even that concerned about the speedo. I'm just need to have proper input from the abs sensors so the truck doesn't start throwing rough road codes. I have something cobbed up now, but it's based on the LR sensor and tone ring, not a Toyota...
Good idea about the custom sensor/axle set-up...Greg, this is exactly what you need for your swap, lucky you... I could probably do the same with the toy axles, but I want to be able to use stock stuff for spares...

the ring is not finnished yet , but the sensor plates on the axle are , ill post pics when it is, the whole design and build of the axle is done by tim at www.straightforwardsupplies.co.uk but what happend was he pressed appart a d2 hub and took the ring out and has a simmilar one designed that is in two halves that clamps round the shafts.

How about you do some real mods like get rid of your big gay front bumper, put on an aftermarket rear bumper that doesnt suck, ditch those stupid light guards, and build an actual suspension system. Seriously, you put a watts linkage on a 404 axle, stay out of the pubs and re think some of this shit.

rikslandys how did you go about changing the front diff from
left side to right side to suit the rover transfer out put ???
I've got some mogs coming for my county & getting all the
imfo I can for the swap.. 1 more Q.. how long is the front
drive shaft ?? Would be real short with a mog diff, or did you
move the front diff forward ??

cheers Jeff

rikslandys.co.uk
08-27-2007, 02:43 PM
you chop the diff out and move it to the other side you need a custom short shaft so the locker works . you get this from tim at straight forward supplies look at the links page on my website www.rikslandys.co.uk , the front prop is pretty short but its ok i used the front double decarden from a td5 that was shortened with a wide angle uj on the diff end.

Wait, let me get this straight? Youre using a stock driveshaft thats just shortened? Why the hell do you spend thousands on axles, and run a POS driveshaft. Why not get something with some 1310 or 1350 u-joints and beefy tubes?

Try these guys, Burgess of Bradford:http://www.propshaft.co.uk/

They made my custom wide yolk, long slip joint shafts and did a narrow diameter one for the front. They will work with you and are big Land Rover fans. I think they used to run/sponser a Comp Safari or Hill Rally team.

My guess is that your angles aren't as severe as the pictures lead people to believe? I have 36" tyres on my SIII with just a set of parabolics and marginally longer shackles. You should be able to run 38" tyres on the Disco without more than a mild 2" lift, no ? I would have thought it better to use a somewhat smaller tyre, minimize the lift required and propshaft angle issues, and keep the CoG down. 38" tyres should give you @ 20" under the diff? But it's a different truck and different portals than mine, so can't say that the above is anything more than somewhat informed opinion....

Keep up the good work.

Greg, didnt you read any of my old threads? The truck runs just fine with no ABS inputs, the only way you can tell they are not attached is that your speedo will go out. No drivability issues were noticed at all, and I ran my truck for 3 weeks with no inputs at all.
