: finished nerfs
Priest 06-05-2002, 09:27 PM Alright I know, there is nothing innovative or overly cool about my nerfs except I finally made the time to build some. I've spent the evening in the garage with wizz cans given them some color. I don't have one of them thar fancy schmancy tube benders yet so we make due....
Priest 06-05-2002, 09:27 PM mounted...
Priest 06-05-2002, 09:28 PM and....the strenght test.
Bill Collins 06-05-2002, 09:54 PM looks good, but i think i might would turn the 2nd.bar in and tie it back together.and nice runner...
Ian30 06-05-2002, 09:57 PM Those look good! I made almost the exact same frame clamp thingies, I swear it made the job twice as long as if i had just welded them on. And now that i have the complete exo welded to the nerfs, They will never come off again. But I have removed them in the past and they work great.
OOP'S 06-05-2002, 09:59 PM Look good, but I would brace the "kickouts" with some tubing
Priest 06-05-2002, 10:07 PM Good insite OOPs....I think I might add a couple tubes....

I thought about that... but after mounting them up and bashing on them I decided that I was OK. I figure if I decide I don't like these I can always sell 'em and build a different set. Thanks for the compliment....:D
pitter 06-05-2002, 10:54 PM those are sweet, are they resting on the bottem of the door rocker when u used a highlift on them?
SeaBass44 06-05-2002, 11:01 PM Good Job, looks like allot of work went into those:eek:
weldpro 06-05-2002, 11:35 PM Definately looks like nice work! I would add those tubes though.
Again-good fab work!;)
weldpro
Im4yotas 06-06-2002, 01:21 AM I just made a set for myself. But they're only 1 length of tube, and welded to the frame...well, one is. The other one is almost ready. The fawking 15 amp circut breaker for my garage keeps blowing, and I need a 20 or 25amp but they don't make that kind anymore...so I started making a skid plate for my buddies prerunner with that POS Harbor Freight bender. I need a JD2...
Oh and (in my best "neener-neener-neeeeenerr" voice) mine are better than yours are:flipoff2:
Now put those things on some rocks! I've already ran 3 trails with the one on there:p

They flex up and hit the pinch weld on the bottom of the body thus distributing the load across the eitire body. They are actually about 1/4" off of the rocker when they are fully stressed. When I mounted them I made sure they were about 5/8" off of the pinch weld when there is no load on them.
Thanks for all the positive feed back fellas.....
woody99 06-06-2002, 08:29 AM Nice fabbing! I have something similar on mine with no kick-outs and welded to the frame instead of bolted.
IMHO the front kick out actually needs to be a kick in. :roxy: When you have your wheel cranked in either direction it has a good possiblity of getting hung up! since it is sticking way out there
The rear is good :usa: but the front is :rainbow:
;)

Plug it into the Washing machine outlet.
I've only blown that one once.
cexodusk 06-11-2002, 06:44 PM where did you get those brackets to bolt the rock sliders to your frame ?

Made 'em. Just get some 4"x 3/16 flat stock and build some boxes. The one's I made are 6"x2 1/2". I wanted them really tight on the frame (it take a 3lb mini-sledge to get the nerfs on...:D ). If you don't have a body lift you might want to make them a little shorter.

I considered gusseting them like your suggesting but I actually want them to flex up put the stress on the pinch weld rather than twisting the crap out of the frame rails. I think I'm going to run them like this for awile and see how it works out. I may end up adding gussets in the future.
Thanks again.
Jim Johnson 06-12-2002, 05:31 AM I like'em, gives me some ideas as well.

Funny you should say that because you build something to keep the body from getting smashed and the first thing you want to do is go and see if you can smash what you built....:rasta:
Jim Johnson 06-12-2002, 03:53 PM yea, you are right. kinda like when a persons smells something and it smells like hell and you both know it, then they ask " damn that stinks, here-smell"
I guess it is just human nature?
Priest 06-12-2002, 04:01 PM LOL...your right.
I've spent the better part of today working on this....
I love telecommuting....:D
ErikB 06-12-2002, 04:08 PM Nice work.
You're right, very time consuming!
I made some similar except the outer rail is higher:

Priest 06-12-2002, 04:15 PM Those are nice Erik...
I like the angles. I notice you didn't cap the ends and the angle is pretty mild, have you had any problems with them catching on stuff? Just curiosity.
Im4yotas 06-13-2002, 08:56 PM Here's mine.
Im4yotas 06-13-2002, 08:59 PM One bit of advise: NEVER use a harbor freight "farm jack" like this one shone. Almost every time I've used it, it fell when lowering the truck. I'm getting a real hilift before I go wheeling again.
Damn those look like sh*t:flipoff2: atleast you finally painted them
where are mine?

Yours are sitting on the shop floor, waiting to be cut and welded:flipoff2:
They're not completely painted, I ran out before getting the frame and backsides.
I still gotta finish my cage, finish that project for my buddies prerunner, do your nerfs and my rear bumper (I'll need a front bumper soon too). Oh, and your rear bumper ain't done. You want me to put those caps on the ends Saturday? Did I mention Terry wants sliders, and Kelli asked for a front bar........Sheesh!:p
