: 4.3L engine conversion advice
brentryll 06-05-2002, 09:38 PM I have a 1989 toy 4x4 with a 3.0L V6. I have done a search on the 4.3L conversion and found some info out about that. But what I am interested in is what places make the kits for this conversion??? If you could leave the name of the place and/or a web address or email it would be greatly appreciated. And for you guys which have already completed this conversion, what, if any, high performance engine parts have you put on and how do you like them????

ajantics 06-06-2002, 12:10 AM I haven't done it yet, but I am looking at the same swap.
I like the looks of Northwest offroad specialties kit.

I have Advance Adapters motor mounts & t-case adapter. Superb quality!
I also wouldn't but a catalog from NWOR. They suck.

I used NWOR bolt-in motor mounts, Howell engine wiring harness and Advance Adapters tranny-to-tcase adapter and headers (which I had ceramic coated). I was happy with all of the above products. This was on an '85 4Runner with a CPI 4.3 and 700R4 mated to stock tcase.
4runner 06-06-2002, 03:00 PM 95 4.3 CPI AA flywheel housing to Toy 5 speed....

did your cpi come as a manual trans(if so what application) that is what i want but have only seen autos--in cali you need the trans to stay the same to pass smog
thanks
brentryll 06-06-2002, 07:44 PM Do you guys use the toyota power steering gear when you do the conversion??? if so, where would i find the adapters for it???

use the gm pump and just get a new p\s hose by either changing the end or a local hyd. shop will make one for cheap
crash 06-06-2002, 10:04 PM 4.3 tbi, mated to sm465, OTT adapter to toy dual cases.
Built everything else myself
And sanderson block hugger headers
4runner 06-07-2002, 04:47 PM My 4.3 was in a S10 Blazer with an auto...I bought the AA belhousing and the Centerforce flywheel/clutch package.
I used the GM power steering pump...I cut the hard line and removed the threaded nut...then put the threaded nut from a Toy PS line on it and reflared it....I eliminated about 5" of the hard line...works like a champ.....I plan to drop the Toy 5speed and Tcase and go 700R4 and NP205.....just my choice....SAS with D44 using 44044's in front and 63" Chevs in the rear....then it is time for 38TSL SX....
4.3 TBi crate motor
crane cam
edelbrock intake
sanderson headers
msd
chip
billet pullys
edelbrock high flow water pump
nitros
mated to a sm 420 and toy dual case with a 4.7 gear
kicks ass
Darby 06-07-2002, 05:46 PM Did any of you guys have to use a body lift? Going to do mine with a 700r can't decide on the 1.5 thick adapter from Downey or the 3.375 from AA. Did yall have to move the tcase?
Thanks Darby
4runner 06-08-2002, 10:43 AM I kept the cool serpentine belt on mine and used the GM 7 blade fan...I moved everything back a few inches and have 4" from fan to radiator...when I swap to the 700R4, I will probably move it to 2" clearance....I cut a piece out of the floor to clear the shifters...the pisece I cut out at the back, I welded in at the front...that way the hole in the floor is still the same size as factory. I use factory rubber boot on shift levers...I raised my drivetrain to get more clearance under the Tcase and at the same time it gave me room to use factory S10 exhaust manifolds....I will tons of room once the SAS gets going....and yes, I already had a 2" body lift so I could clear the 35's I run....the Trailmaster 4" suspension lift(with spacers in front A-arms for more articulation) didn't let them clear....:barf:
the CPI starts easy, runs smooth, and doesn't care about the angle....now I just need a bigger fuel tank for extended range...:rasta:

With 700R4 and long adapter, the t-case moves back roughly two inches.
Using the shorter adpater lets you leave it in stock position.

Even with the AA adapter, you can run the 700R4 without driveline mods. Did it twice now.
ROKTOY 06-09-2002, 06:14 AM When I did mine I just wanted more room between the fan and
radiator and the AA radiator I used was pretty thick, sio the
t-case ended up further back.

On my V8 conversion I just threaded the Toyota pressure line into the GM pump. Even though the Toy is a double flair and the GM uses an O-ring the threads are the same (only late 80's on up pumps have metric fittings though) and I have no leaks.
So my question is why get a custom line made up or re-flair the GM line to fit the Toyta gear?:D
I used the GM pump on the 4.3 with the S10 lines. Cut the flare off the GM line and installed a Toyota flarenut. Reflared the end and screwed it into the Toy box. Works great!
