Right now I have 3.73 and 28" tire size on a new project and I am swaping out the axels and tires. My ? is I will be running 36" and would like the same final drive ratio so what gears would I need to keep it to its stock drive ratio? Any help would be great, I just moved a few monthe ago and can't find the magazine with the conversion chart in it!!! Thanks Kevin

4.56 puts you in the "zone" but while I was at it, I would go ahead and get 4.88's in case you go to 38's.

Wngrog, Thanks for the info, That is the range I had in mind. My 44/9" both have 4.10/4.11 but will be to high for a stock 4.0 v6 with 36s. Thanks again.

4.88s or 5.13s: 4.56s are barely enuf gear for 33s id go w/ 5.13s so you dont do it over on a trail rig on a driver id do 4.88s
One thing to keep in mined is that with larger tires your going to be moving alot more wieght. So if you change your gears to match your final ratio that you now have it might not be enough. 4.88 with 36" tires should set you about 3100,3200 rpm at 65.

Thanks for the info. It might help if I gave all info. What I am doing is a 91 xlt 4dr explorer, I am putting a dana44 EB in front and a EB 9" ion the rear (left over from totaling my last rig) and I will be running 36 TSL swampers ( also left overs ). The rig has a 4L V6 stock 4 speed auto over drive (I know not that strong) and stock T-case. So what I am wanting to do is set it up for my girlfriend for now as a grociery getter and later as a trail rig (5.0L new auot over drive from a 98 explorer and Atlas 4.3 or >) It is getting a full Exo-cage and all the bells and wistels are already their. So the question is what will work for now and still be fine later! I am thinking 4.88 would be a good choice. What do you think? Thanks again for the help.

4.88s then would be the way to go!
