I'm helping my dad reassemble his Scout II Dana 44. What I was wondering is what is the wheel bearing nut torque specification? What is the procedure for tightening the big nuts?

thank you,

Fawk the specs… just do it by hand…… I would guess 15 pounds

40 lbs, then back off a 1/4 turn. Test by feel, make sure no play and turns freely

Well take your right hand and.............

hehehehe Too many jokes in my head right now:D :D :D

First off, you'll need a hub wrench. Turn that sucka until it won't turn no-mo. Then back the mo-fo off a little. Done!

thank you,

40lbs-ft while turning the wheel.

Back off 1/4 -1/3 turn.

Put flat washer on.

Install second nut, torque to 125lbs-ft.

Fold flat washer over.

I didn't say *I* still use the flat-washers.. :D

Actually, I do on my trail rig.. I need to check and see if the Chevy nut-kit I bought for my Chevy front end will work with the SII spindles, too.

They're under $10 at the parts store.. and clean, too. :)
