: Ranger V8 conversion Questions....
John Deere Ranger 06-06-2002, 06:37 AM I'm installin a mustang v8 in my ranger and I got some truck manifolds and the Feekin passanger side manifold hits the frame...... WTF...... I got mustang convertable mounts.... so that should locate the engine left to right on its own. I can't freekin figure this out.. I've been told you don't have to notch the passanger side frame ... What have yall done?
Did I screw somethin up do I have the motor sitting funny? HELP please
Yea... I know there are a bunch of topics about the conversion itself I just can't figure this out.
wich truck manifolds did you get ?(year,do they have o2 sensor holes ,etc.)
i didnt notch shit and mine fit ! with plenty of room :flipoff2:
John Deere Ranger 06-06-2002, 07:34 AM late 80's and NO they don't have the O2 sensor on it..... Should I try to find a passanger side exhaust manifold with an O2 sensor on it?
The truck was fuel injected and hand the external hydrolic slave cylinder which I think means like 88 or so .... correct me if i'm wrong.
Nobody 06-06-2002, 08:15 AM I think you probably need to find yourself some different manifolds. I've heard of all sorts of different ones being used. Notching the frame sucks. Try not to do it.
John Deere Ranger 06-06-2002, 08:17 AM WHAT MANIFOLDS WORK????????
im goin to take a pic for you so hold on.
the ones you need are out of 78-79 and older F150's with a auto tranny . thats a for sure thing :D

John Deere Ranger 06-06-2002, 08:52 AM Thanx .......
John Deere Ranger 06-06-2002, 09:18 AM Places around here want Freekin $50-$75 for one of them..... that's inSANE
78 and 79 351 are the m series im sure his is a windsor and i think they take diff manifolds. id try like and 80-82 manifold from the 351 windsor. i have a set of 86 351w manifolds in the shed on a 351 m i will prolly get rid of soon cause i have shorty headers for it. they have the emmision tubes coming out of the top although they can be romoved and the holes pluged. id try the earlier 351w though they may not have the tubes im talking about.
Nobody 06-06-2002, 10:52 AM Alx, do you think they would work without a body lift?
Dangerranger, you should just go browse around the yards and find a manifold that hugs the block really well. I think it would be pretty obvious if they would work or not......
Or if you don't want to play the guessing game, go get yourself a set of kaufmann headers and mounts. Or, I'm pretty sure the duff headers work with your mounts.
John Deere Ranger 06-06-2002, 01:10 PM I called James duff and AA.... Duff lead me no where they were COMPLETELY unhelpful then AA was very helpful and faxed me pics of there mounts and directions from the looks of everything they just use Mustang Coupe mounts... The picture they sent me resembles some I have laying around here. Also they gave me the measurements for the placement of their motor mounts the only differance was my mounts sit lower than theirs by about an inch or so.
Save youself some money and buy mustang convertable mounts. (for those of you who don't know) .
now just to find some exhaust manifolds........
yes the manifolds i have come off a 78-79 and older 302 auto C4 , 2WD truck F150-100
and will work without a body lift
i can get them for 20 bucks each all day long :smokin: or untill the yard runs out
Nobody 06-06-2002, 02:16 PM I wanted to go with a solid mount instead of rubber mounts and I didn't have time to build my own so I coughed up the dough for the kaufmann mounts. I'm happy with them. Expensive, but they saved a lot of time and the hassel you are going through. I only had 10 days to do the complete swap.
John Deere Ranger 06-06-2002, 04:26 PM Well I thought and ws told taht truck manifolds or car manifolds will work but I was never told or read the years that would work or not work... so that is my problem... when I am done I plan on writting up a summary to quicken anybody else who is going through the struggles I am going through.
Nobody 06-06-2002, 05:12 PM Ask about manifold options at the following boards. Just take everything with a grain of salt. I get as much bad info as I do good info. Last year one of the guys was compiling a list of manifolds, but then the board crashed. I'm sure who ever it was still has the list.

John Deere Ranger 06-06-2002, 06:44 PM i scanned through those two links and didn't find any topics...... but i will scan the yard tommorrow
no ifs and or buts what i posted about the 2WD trucks with a 302 and C4 auto is what you want .
the only other ones that i know of, come off of mavericks and mustang II's but are usealy gone.
so just stick to the trucks they are easyier to find :D
i did alota research on the 5.0 swap and had all my parts before i even pulled the 2.9, had it running in two weeks with EFI
John Deere Ranger 06-06-2002, 07:25 PM that is what i'm going to look for when I hit the yard tommorrow... you've help out a bunch thanx.....
2002 FX4 Ranger 06-08-2002, 05:11 PM Well, a good friend just finished dropping a 460 into an 88/89 ranger. They used the weld yourself header kit. Worked great. But, they went outside the frame rails and ran the exhaust through the bed with stacks.
John Deere Ranger 06-08-2002, 09:53 PM with a 460 that would be the logical choice becuase of the width but a 302 ain't very wide........ But as Alx said... those manifolds work PERFECT... NO IF' ands or buts...
:D
