something i can hit bumps and jumps with and won't fall apart. doesn't need a huge motor. what suspension kits work the best?

Most of the guys i know run Rangers with a mustang motor. There is so much stuff avalible for those trucks and they are cheap

ideal for jumping has to be a 2wd ranger. the long twin beam suspension is the perfect base to build on.

then do a 2 link rear with coilover shocks.

you can build any vehicle to withstand lots of air. do u want a rig that will do with stock suspension components? or are you planing on moding it? the 2wd ranger and f150 work well becasue their ibeams can be built for a lot of travel. but a arm ifs is tough too. i cant really say unless i know your plans

I would recommend a standard cab Nissan Frontier with the Total Chaos (http://www.chaosfab.com/) (TC) long travel suspension kit. The Frontys are solid and can be aquires reasonably enough. The TC kits cost bit, but are well worth it.

Good luck.

I Have Seen A Lot Of 2wd Mid 80's Dodges That Are Used For Jumping And Tuff Truck Contests. They Are Stripped To The Bone, But Seem To Have Mostly Stock Suspensions Except For The Springs. Personally I Would Get A Ranger, But Thats Another Option.

Just keep buying trucks for $10 and build your jump at the bottom of a hill...

although there is a wealth of knowledge here at pirate4x4.com, for the type of off roading you are looking at, you should check out a pre-runner site. not a plug at all but dezertrangers(with a "z")dot com has hundreds of guys that thrive on jumping their trucks. there is a classifieds section with tons of used trucks already built and used lift kits that will suit your needs.... check it out, you'll like it...

Lot's of stuff out there for the 2wd Toyotas as well, late 80's on up. U can get a shit load of hop up stuff for the motors as well.
I have to say thoe, the beam trucks (2wd fords) are king!

real advice.... My first vehicle was a 82 Datsun king cab 2wd and it had frequent flyer miles... It was well balanced, landed flat and was nothing of value to destroy... it held up well to my idiot driving when i was 16 until it met the rear of an s-10... my suggestion on anything you build for jumping.... move the radiator to the rear..
