Wow, Is all I got to say!

Sunday Oct 7, 2001 somewhere about 85 miles south of Columbus Ohio. We fully got it! You have to check out the pics. This is the EAST coast at its finest.

Carnage report:
Fried Mass airflow sensor Toyota Tacoma
Fried Alternators 2 Both Toyota Tacoma's
Blown Bead Toyota Tacoma
Blown up Birfield Toyota Tacoma
Stuck in mud All but one Toyota Tacoma's
Yea I got stuck but it was an optional spot.
Winch, Strap, Jumpercables, Highlift, Air, onboard wash system, More air, Airtools, hand tools, flashlights, Switched batteries, in two toys, we used Jeep batteries,
One and 1/2 rolls, One CJ 5 on its side.
My TJ on the right rear hoop of cage.

When the 5 went over I finally got to PIRATE SURF! I felt like lance I tell ya!
It was way sweet. the 5 went over on the passenger side and I jumped on the drivers side. Grabbed his strap, wrapped it around the cage and began to surf. Then since I dont weigh that much another helper/spotter jumped on too. With 2 of us Pirate Surfing the CJ5 we were able to balance it on only the right 2 tires. He was then able to drive it out without any rescue tools. What a blast Simply the coolest thing I have been a part of. And I have LANCE and BOB to thank for it!

Check out the pics.

My new Tahoe towed the Jeep with no complaints at all. I love it! Looks like a trailer is next.

REV limiters are fun!

We all got to hook up there again. I remember a red light? does that help?

Other then the deep mud I don't see any tough spots... Hell we even have crap like that here in Nebraska (ok not the trail but a few mud pits) am I missing something?

Bert
10-10-2001, 03:06 PM
I wasn't in charge of the camera's and all the really hard spots only the 2 Jeeps could make it up. The toys had to go around and they had the camera's. the go arounds were not close to the obsticals and noone got any good shots of the tough stuff.
there was one brave Toyota that stuck with me. Marc is the man, Open open and he just made that toy do it! Its not all the vehicle, but sometimes the driver. And he can drive. Actually the first time I ever saw Thornbirds work. I was truely impressed.

Too bad he didn't have a camera either.

But you are correct there was alot of mud. some of the mud go arounds were tougher than the mud. there was this one off camber up hill climb around a mud pit and it was one of the hardest obsticals. Marc's toy had the left rear tire flexed down and still about 2 feet off the ground. and then we jumped on his rock slides and it at least touched the ground. But it was a wild ride to say the least.

I was hoping someone would have gotten a shot of us hanging on the CJ 5. That was totally cool.

rev limiters what are they ? my toy redlines at 5500 and I've had it at 6500 more than once. Maybe thats the reason for the spun rod bearing . If you remember BellyUp my toy didn't get stuck in mud at wellsville only the ifs toy did. It sounds like all the problems were with the taco's. You didn't mention any real toy's(solid axle).

And they are all getting onboard air too

Oh yea the club was

The Toyota Tacoma Off Road Enthusists. Nice bunch of guys. And they were all Geeked on Heather too!... Heather was my copilot. They thought it was cool that I let her drive part of the trail.

For one a Jeep battery is better because it says OPTIMA on it

As for riping on the Toys, No I don't. Them guys tried every single mud puddle. I went around most. I give them lots of credit. I just had to find some reason to jack them. I am in the process of settin up a PA trip to either Altoona or Johnstown with them guys. Hey Belly, that sounds like Stone Quarry Road. As you turned onto the dirt road off the main road (Rt 50), did you go past a clearing that had a sizable brown state wildlife or hunting area sign?

If so, I went there Summer 2000. It was a muddy mess, those holes are insane. We had a Cruiser roll there.

Ok so I am toytoa ignorant. It was the passengerside ujoint CV joint Birfield assembly thingy that nuked. I dont know what you call it but it is hooked to the axle and it dont work anymore.

Yea thats the place! There was a few small game hunters there too but they didn't seam to mind us. We were way past where they were hunting. Half the fun was picking a way to get past the mud. Of course the Toyota guys just hammered right threw.

WASSUP BURT.
Well I wana say thanks for all the help you gave us on the trails. You have cool toys on your rig. BUT LET ME CORRECT SOME OF YOUR TRAIL REPORT !!!!!!! You were a bit harsh on the TACO'S. You said that only the jeeps did the hard parts??? I do recall Don" TACOMA"climbing the hill with the rock out croping that we could not get up. I also recall both jeeps not atempting the hill climb with the slickrock at the top. Don and myself "TACOMAS" atleast attemted it. I also recall tacomas hitting every mudhole !!
Just giving you hell Burt. We will have to come out and check out your trails in Pa sometime. Oh and anybody is allways welcome to come to run with us at badlands we take a few trips there every year. That place rocks!! And im going back to McCartur this weekend again on sunday to run the rest we missed.. Oh and thanks for the props on my driving skills it is mostly vehicle because TACOMAS RULE BABY.......

No offence just stating a fact.

Archie, Be my guest. I was standing at the local 4x4 shop and the driveshaft guy carries in 2 drive shafts. Well he was looking to set them down and looks at the glass counter. Then he says, "I better not, I have a history of breaking stuff." I looked at the salesman and said, I have to have a bumper sticker. 10 bucks later.

After closer examination of the CJ 5, no damage. A good thing. I hate fixing 'glass.

I get 15 days a year.. But I have 42 saved so far.. Plus 15 more on Jan 1, 2002.. Its not the vacation.. It's the cost of the GAS

I am lookin at like 14 tanks of gas to get there and back.. AT say 25 gal. each....

Its lookin like I will own my own trailer this year.. So maybeee. Just maybee..

I cant wait. to get out there . Then If and when I roll hard, i wont feel so bad, (knowing I at leat made it out there and tried.)

Rolling here would suck big time. It would show that you tried someting stupid.
