I have a 98 Dodge 2500 12 Valve auto that I am wanting to put a valve body in the trans & upgrade the torque converter. I'm looking for some advice on which one to get. Thanks

I guess that depends on what you want to do/what your uses are for the truck.

Mainly for towing purposes. My truck has ~190,000 miles. Thanks

Looked at the Transgo site, saw shift kits, but no valve bodies or torque converters.

Lots of discussions on that very subject. But with 190K on it, I would be inclined to freshen it up first. I'm waiting for my warranty to expire and installing a single disk TQ and VB. ATS, Suncoast, DTT, Goerend, etc all make them.

Looks like TCI has them.

I once talked to a previous employee of one of the transmission 'big boys'. I asked whats the difference between your valve body, and one that someone does at home with a trans-go kit or a dun-rite kit?
He said
" About $200 dollars."

Converters. Suncoast 5 disc has been my personal favorite.

Go with a company that specializes in diesel transmissions. I've seen guys try to run a TCI, or jegs catalog TC and it eats them up.

Goerand's Brothers have a good price for a TC and VB ($1300, and $400) and they guarantee them to any HP, no matter what you do with the truck. Sled pull, drag race, towing etc.

Also seen bad ass products come from HTS, DTT, and Suncoast, but they are a little more pricey.

Also on the trans-go junk, I spend alot of time on the cummins only forums, and there are numerous posts where guys try to set them up and have to put it in, drive it, come home take out and adjust then repeat until its right...and with 16 quarts of fluid and the work involved...that doesn't sound fun at all.

Your is the 47re?

I just had my 48RE rebuilt, did a dual clutch billit TC, and the transgo kit in the valve body, bigger pan, all new cltuches and stuff, and I swapped my 4th gear to a straight cut gear. the 48Re's have a 15 degree cut on 4th and it side loads the rear bearing if your towing in 4th on the highway it will burn up the bearing and could take out hte whole trans. The 47RE I think 4th gear is a 23 degree cut.

I dont know if my old 15 degree stuff would fit in your 47re to upgrad from 23 degree? it might. I think guys are doing that as an upgrade. PM me in your interested in my 48RE 4th gear.

So, how bad does the transmission howl with straight cut gears in the OD unit then? Got a link to where you can buy the kit?

my pops just put a hts trans in his 98 dually this weeknd. i took it for a drive, seems to do really well. shifts are a little harsh less than 1/4 throttle but every where else they seem perfect. i think he got the 90 percent converter ( triple disc ). billet input and intermeddiate (sp ?) shaft. torque converter lock up is very solid and pronounced. he tows with the truck very often. ill let you know about the longevity later:smokin:

Those HTS transmissions are out of this world. My buddy has fully built with billet shafts in his 05 dodge, uses a suncoast convertor and that thing is wicked for driving and playing, then put a load behind it and it doesnt even flinch.

we towed 12k behind it for 1600 miles in may, just 2 weeks after installing it and the tranny temp never saw over 180 on the trip. pulling the big mtns it would downshift and stay locked and never once did it slip. also found a neat feature coming down some long grades, in tow haul mode it would downshift and lock the convertor and give us engine braking.
