I am on my 3rd Alternator and unsure if the wiring is correct. This one is finally charging. However, whenever I hook up the wire lead to the small nut/screw in the back it runs like sh_ _. The larger threaded pod I beleive is correct. However, the smaller threaded pod seems to be the issue. Does anyone know what that goes too and whe all of a sudden I lossed my tack. Thanks

You lost your tach because it gets its feed from the alternator. Transpose the two smaller gauge wires and see if you get your tach back.

PT Thanks, I did fix that problem at 3:00 AM this morning. Now, I have bigger problems! It charges and will not idle worth a flip. The only thing I did was replace the alternator. I am getting ready to shoot Lucus and get a dam Toyota. Any ideas. I replaced the Plenum 2wks ago and it idled fine 2dys ago. It runs smooth at 3000rpms. However, when I put my foot into it from idle it cuts out!!!!!

Is it a stock alternator, or something else? I put a Delco on my RR and had to put an external noise supressor on the tach lead to fix my stumbling problem.

3 leads.............
1 large one is the 12V out.
1 is for the tach. This is an AC signal. If you hook that into the main 12V circuit, you will fry all the electronics in the vehicle in short order. If you have been doing that you probably killed something or a variety of things.
Last one is for the idiot light. It must be hooked up through the idiot light system or the tach will never turn on.
