it turned out taller than i wanted, but i didn't want my head smacking the cage. we started with a set of frame rails and two empty axle housings monday after work. and the cage pics were taken sunday evening. and we didn't get to work on it friday night. just 5 nights and one day. mike
StinkBug 06-06-2002, 04:06 PM what kinda motor is that, and how did you mate it to a car/truck type tranny/tcase. i've had thoughts of a cycle powered buggy in the past and that was my biggest brain teaser. about how much does that thing weigh? and what size tires are you plannin on running?

Brawler 06-06-2002, 04:09 PM Oh man your'e killing me
Hayraker 06-06-2002, 04:29 PM Hey Mike, I showed the picture to my wife and she said, "I can already see his kids in that thing":D , I told her "no, its a competition buggy", she said "I don't care, they will hang on to the sides if they have to":D
gunracer1 06-06-2002, 04:32 PM it is a shaft drive 750 seca yamaha about a 82 model. i took the driveshaft from the bike right behind the u jount. it had a 15 deg taper. i took the datsun b210 clutch disk apart and turned it down to mate up with the 15deg bevel of the yamaha drive shaft. then welded it all together. and used a motor plate like on drag cars to locate the front of the tranny. then a short drive shaft from the datsun tranny to the t case. 40 forward gears and 20 reverse. might work, might blow to shit, i will know in a week or two. it has a set of 37x12.5x17 bfgs. i think it weighs about 13 to 1400 right now. the whole cage is 1 5/8 .120 wall erw. mike
Brawler 06-06-2002, 04:38 PM I think you should definitly run it without shocks. :flipoff2:
Are you really gonna compete in that thing? If so, then fuckin A man, TEAR-------IT-------UP!!!!!!!
On a side note, please remember to get plenty of video.
Whizzy 06-06-2002, 04:42 PM Looks Like a fawked up Golf Cart.
:flipoff2:
:D
Brawler 06-06-2002, 04:45 PM My wife said she wants to run it in the mud pit at TTC. Thinks it would be a blast ( no pun intended )
gunracer1 06-10-2002, 10:47 AM well after going and checking out pro rocks this weekend, i think it just might work pretty well. there were a couple of courses that it would have worked great on and a couple that it would have had a hard time. we are going to see about finishing it up in the next week or two and try it out. mike
TONY K 06-10-2002, 12:33 PM Does the motor go in the front or rear ?
I was at Stacey B. in Auburn the other day, saw the same thing only with 54" tires on Toy pu axles. He was using a 750 interceptor motor, said it would have to due until he gets the electric motor. He said light weight is the way to go so if you get stuck, the spotter can just lift it up my a strap and carry it.
What kind to leaf springs are those and how much lift block did you use?
See ya,
tony k
gunracer1 06-10-2002, 12:41 PM stock yjs with raised spring mounts. that are offset to the front and rear.
Pdaddy 06-10-2002, 12:41 PM  That is about all I can say mike!!!! That is crazy, keep us updated, that is some serious against the grain building there, I like it!!!!
HighToy 06-10-2002, 12:54 PM Why did you decide on the 750 and not a 1000 or higher like from the early 80's honda bikes, They are shaft driven as well.
schuss 06-10-2002, 01:27 PM I believe BMW engines are shaft drive as well, those would be great, with the torque they put out.
TONY K 06-10-2002, 01:59 PM I just looked at that thing again, only this time the side view with the fence in the background, I got an idea. Even Big Rich and Ned Rasher(bacon) will like this one. Build buggies with cages around them like this one and then use chain link fencing to keep the drivers safe.
see ya,
tony k
gunracer1 06-10-2002, 02:04 PM because i had a yamaha in the shed with 4k miles on it that ran great. but i didn't get the title to it. it still has about 75hp and with 40 forward gears and 10k rpm i will be able to find one that works. mike
HighToy 06-10-2002, 02:11 PM Works for me. Free is always best.
That thing would be a blast out at Pismo...
4x4runner 06-10-2002, 02:12 PM be sure to keep it locked up, we wouldn't want some inmates breaking out of the fence and taking it for a joyride :flipoff2:
