: Need a weight estimate

Ok, I need a weight estimate on my rig. In the market for a trailer to haul my junk, but don't know how much it weighs. The tag is not on the door cause it has been repainted so I don't know what it weighed stock. I know I can go for a typical 14k gooseneck deckover and be covered, but I want to either build or buy a low deck with drive over fenders, maybe even a bumper pull if I find one I can modify for my needs. I know the pros and cons of bumper versus goose and would rather a goose for this kind of weight, but would consider a bumper.

My rig is a 93' gmc extra cab short bed, came with a 350/4l60E, IFS and 10 bolt. It will now have a 454/NP435/203/205 with rocks and leafs. I removed the bed and 2 feet of frame from the rear. The wheels are 20x 12 double bead locks(steel)/52" Michilen XL's. I know the wheels and tires are probably in the 400lb. per corner range. I want to do a cage behind the cab and maybe a full exo. Based on this info what kind of estimate can u give me. I know this is kind of a ballpark question, but I just would like some good guesses.

I will be pulling it with an 06' dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 cummins, so if I go bumper pull then I will probably be going with a wd hitch.

I know this will get some flaming but fuck it!:flipoff2:

that thing has got to be heavy with a big block, rockwells and 53" tires...
I'd say your up around 8K....if not more.

I'm thinking so to. It would help a bunch if I knew what it weighed stock.

So if you know that a 14k trailer will do, but you want to build one, why not build one with two 7k axles so it's rated for 14k? Then you don't have to worry about what it weighs.

Ok, I deserved that:laughing:. That was right in front of me. But I know were a set of 5200 or 6k axles are that i can get cheap but not sure if I would be border line or over weight. Guess I am making this too hard and should just go with a set of 14k.

You've got the idea. It's like some of the Harley guys that come into my shop. They ride in on a really nice bike. Custom paint, motor, maybe a nice Jesse James looking tank, just a clean really nice ride. Then they walk over to the cheapest 4x8 trailer on the lot.

If you wheel with the thought "Go big or go home", "Drive it like you stole it", etc. etc., then ask yourself "That is who I am, isn't it? Or am I just acting on the trail?" Don't be one of those guys? Build it like a rig, ONCE!

I guess that is my down fall, I am the cheap ass bastard that every time I go some were, I am lurking and looking for what most would consider junk, but something I might could use maybe one day possibly:shaking:. That is why I am rebuilding my rig now, cause I used or built what I thought might would maybe work possibly for a couple of rides. I know, booty fab at its finest:D. But I am trying to take my time this time around and do this one time and I need to do the same thing on my trailer build. Thanks for the input, guess I will keep searching for a more suitable and reliable trailer project.

They don't have truck stops or gravel yards where you live? Truck stops around here charge $8 to weight your truck.

My 22' bumper pull deckover weighs 4,500 lbs empty.

Get the 7k axles.

Go to a local coop.

Several of the local rock and gravel sales places around here have scales with the 10" digital readout where you can read the weight yourself as you drive over. You wouldn't even need to stop.

Yeah, that would be cool except there are no places like that around here that I know of within a 100 miles or so. There is one place, the local land fill, but I hate to get that close to that place with my rig, I may be tempted:D
