at one of the local stealerships here is two land rovers. i have always liked them and now even more after seein some badass rigs in this forum. so there is a blue land rover county i think its called 78xxx miles good condition as far as i can see. they want 2800 for it. i want to know if it is worth buyin?

i have a friend who owns bills european automotive here in santa fe and all he works on is land rovers so if i needed any work done i could send it to him. his shop was closed today so i would have asked him this...how strong is the drivetrain? i have seen some rovers here runnin LARGE tires and looks like the stock axles cause they are weey offsett. i like the fact that they are coils as well. i will be traveling to las cruces this summer for school and this would be my wheeling:D rig and when i come home i plan on doin a lot of camping. i am not hard on drivetrain parts because i am a crawler at heart but if i need to give it gas i will. so i would like all your help you can offer, thanks.

Have your buddy look it over.
He should be able to tell you if it's a good truck.

All of your other assumptions are on track.

In many ways the County's are superior to the later Defenders. The Salisbury diffs are built and machined with better precision, with longer, oil lubed axle splines and driveflanges that last up to 350,000 miles instead of 60,000. The driveshaft UJ's are bigger, Birfield joints bigger, chassis better built and painted, body panels still made from Birmabrite alloy instead of mild cheese. The roof with 3 spot welded external stiffening ribs is much stronger than the Defender roof with a single glued on internal rib. Most of the body cappings were still galvanised. I could go on but you get the idea.
Bill.

If I'm not mistaken, he is referring to the 1990 Range Rover County.

ya it is a 1990 range rover county. i dont think bill will go do it for me cause he is busy but i have been into vehicles my whole life as well as my dad. i just wanted to know if everything was strong enough to handle some mods without havin to swap axles like i would need to on my samurai

If you're a friend of Bill, buy it!

You're in a part of the world that is very favorable for these beasts.

The '90 will have things like ABS and the Borg-Warner transfer case, 10-spline axles. But, it does have the 3.9 rather than the 3.5.

With the mileage you've indicated and the price, I see no reason not to go for it.
