: Brake upgrades for a '69?

Allright, I'm not a Jeep guy. I'm sneaking over from the Toy Boards.

I have a friend with a '69 Jeep. I don't know what model or if there even were different models of the basic Jeep design for that year.

He has a stock braking system on his Jeep now with 35" tires and his braking is terrible. I've done a few searches and didn't come up with anything.

Is there a junkyard fix to upgrade the booster or convert to discs?

He was going to buy an upgrade from Master Power Brakes (http://mpbrakes.com) but I wanted to see if they had a reputation (good or bad) before he did.

Any Idea? Any more info I can get for you?

Thanks,

John

first step would be getting rid of the drums that are up front

Thanks Mo,

I wondered if was front drums. I have been talking to his wife lately and she has been relaying info. I asked her that and she didn't know. I wouldn't have even asked her except that my '70 FJ55 was front drums and figured his Jeep might be too.

If your friend is interested I have all of the parts necessary to swap to disc brakes on a CJ dana 30... Knuckles with caliper brackets, Calipers, Spindles, Hubs with almost new bearings, axle stub shafts, and a set of Warn premium lockouts.

I just swapped in a Scout dana 44.

My email is jagert59@yahoo.com and I'm in TN

That'd be great, but a 69 doesnt have a 30 front. It has a closed knuckle D27 front. And the parts wont swap at all.

While disks are nice, the easiest upgrade would be to dump the 10 inch drums and replace them with 11 inch drums all the way around. Refer your friend here (http://www.forumco.com/sparky) for full coverage on this standard upgrade.

The 11" thing is all good, or at least that's what my wife says:flipoff2: But they just discontinued them new. So now you need to look for used stuff.
