: CVC and repeat offenders
nasvik 06-06-2002, 07:04 PM Just got the announcement from the Courts for my second fender flare violation. From what I can tell, I have to provide proof or show up in court. There is no option for paying a full amount bail - only the $10 fix-it fee.
Did they do that because it's the second offense......? Or am I just reading this wrong? I'd rather pay the fine than deal with mudflaps and flares.
Paul
NOODLES 06-06-2002, 07:14 PM It's easy to make your own fender flairs just get creative with some rubbermaid garbage cans. You only need them to get it signed off. Then after you are done with them pull them back off and store them for the next ticket.
redwilly 06-06-2002, 07:25 PM In CA you can correct the violation or pay the bail amount; however don't yank those muflaps or fender flares just yet, because too many of the same violation is called failure to comply and thats fawked! frank
nasvik 06-06-2002, 07:48 PM Problem is... I don't have much time to make corrections, and I'm also about to redo a lot of things about the Jeep. I'd rather just pay the fine and call it day until I can design in a temp solution. I'll call the Courts tomorrow and find out if there's another way....
Thanks,
Paul

Easy solution is el-cheapo garden edging. One roll (about $7 to $12) should be enough to do all four fenders. Hold it on with some small inexpensive "C" clamps. Can't get much more temporary then that!:D
Dan-H 06-06-2002, 10:29 PM what about borrowing some skinnier tires? I'd lend you mine but they are the wrong pattern
go borrow some 32-15s off of a bronco with stock offset and they should fit in what little is left of your fenders, then make a mudflap out of a floormat.

Monkeyboy 06-06-2002, 10:51 PM Paul come over this weekend and we can put my 38x11.50 boggers on your rims to get the ticket written off.
:flipoff2:
Dan-H 06-06-2002, 11:10 PM I think he'll still have to do some sort of rear flap where the body is cut away.

And you wonder why I wont drive mine ;) I'd say bring it over and we'll fix it.. but I cant unless it can wait till next month.
Paul, where'd you get these tickets? CHP or S.F.P.D.?

Paul, I once got a ticket for a noisy exhaust in Kali. First offense.
Had to get the ticket signed off as fixed and had to pay the $10.
if you are gonna run on the street put flaps on it.
I hated getting sand blasted by trucks when i was cruising with the top down.
it would take only a few minutes to put pin-off flap brackets on that truck.
look at the removeable flaps on semi tractors, real simple bolt on frame bracket.
nasvik 06-07-2002, 02:17 PM Jes - CHP.
Does anyone know a shop in or close to SF that sells what I need to make this 'legal'? I just spoke to the courts - HAVE to correct, no option to pay full bail this time. No reason given for why.
Paul
Try Patterson Parts for mudflaps if you need them. They're at 745 Army(or Cesar Chavez St.) a block or two on the other side of Third St.

Jes
Moss rubber on San Mateo Ave in SSF will have what you need to make a temp fix.
Keith 06-07-2002, 04:16 PM Aint that a bitch! I would try to find a truck stop close by and pick up on semi mud flap. Cut it in half and bolt it to a piece of 3/4" square tube. Tack about a 4" section of box tube to the inside of the rear bumper and slide the flaps in. You could use some pins to hold them in place, something like what is used on the sway bar disconnects.
nasvik 06-07-2002, 04:19 PM That's the plan Keith. But a truck stop nearby the interior of San Francisco....? :flipoff2:
Thanks for the ideas, guys.

Keith 06-07-2002, 04:23 PM Cant get to a truck stop huh? Why dont you just cut up that rubber inspection suit you use at the bath houses?:rainbow:

orbitcat 06-08-2002, 12:44 AM A friend of mine just got his third ticket for tires. Then cop (local police) sited him for Failure to Comply with the Law or something like that. Can't this guys catch criminals?
Anybody have know what the actual law states? All I could find was this:
Fenders and Mudguards
27600. No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer unless equipped with fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud to the rear of the vehicle and all such equipment or such body or attachments thereto shall be at least as wide as the tire tread. This section does not apply to those vehicles exempt from registration, trailers and semitrailers having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds, or any vehicles manufactured and first registered prior to January 1, 1971, having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds.
Amended Ch. 215, Stats. 1970. Effective November 23, 1970.
nasvik 06-08-2002, 08:18 AM orbitcat - CVC 27600 is the "actual law" I was cited for. That's the same wording I've found.

here's where they nail you, and in theory could also get you for contempt of court...
Unlawful Operation After Notice by Officer
24004. No person shall operate any vehicle or combination of vehicles after notice by a peace officer, as defined in Section 830.1 or subdivision (a) of Section 830.2 of the Penal Code, that the vehicle is in an unsafe condition or is not equipped as required by this code, except as may be necessary to return the vehicle or combination of vehicles to the residence or place of business of the owner or driver or to a garage, until the vehicle and its equipment have been made to conform with the requirements of this code.
The provisions of this section shall not apply to an employee who does not know that such notice has been issued, and in such event the provisions of Section 40001 shall be applicable.
Amended Ch. 171, Stats. 1979. Effective January 1, 1980.
70~K5 06-08-2002, 02:05 PM There's a truck stop in 'Frisco down off of Army on Toyan I think.
no kidding, like there is anywhere in North America where you cant buy truck parts or find a truck stop.
everything comes n goes by truck.
no need to fab anything, go get mud flap hangers and brackets from a semi wrecking yard.
2 bolts to mount the hangers to the frame, they accept square stock mud flap brackets that are drill for hairpin, most truckers use a bungee cord between the 2 flaps though
