I'm looking for a place to buy a 25-35 gallon ASE certified vertical air tank to build my compressor with. I'm not having much luck finding one. Does anybody know where I can look? If nothing else, I just tear the motor/pump off my crapsman one and use the tank, but I was hoping to sell it for a little coin.

McMaster.com
Grainger.com
Surpluscenter.com

All $$$ for ASME air tanks.

Yeah, I've checked them, surplus centers aren't asme rated. I'm watching some new dewalt tanks on ebay, if I don't get that, I'll probably just use rip the compressor off my craftsman one and use that tank.

Your best bet is Craiglist, used. All new ASME tanks I have seen cost just as much as what you can get a complete compressor setup for.

Why does it need to be ASME rated?

We are talking only 120-170psi, right?

Good question. Personally, I'd use a good propane tank. You can buy brand new 25 gallon propane tanks for about $75 from Lowe's/HD/TSC.

It doesn't need to be, compressor will be around 150 p.s.i. I just got a 30 gallon asme tank off ebay with the top plate for a seperate motor/compressor setup for $145 shipped, brand new. It works for me. I need to find a motor and magnetic starter now.

I'll also be "cycling" the tank fairly often as it's only 30 gallons, and some of my things have a high air demand. The compressor I'm getting pumps out 18 cfm @ 110p.s.i. though, so it'll do fine. I just don't have the room for anything bigger.
