Say you want to install pillar gauges (07' Silverado "Classic" 4x4 6.0 NV4500 (manual for those that aren't in the know) and already have oil temp and pressure. What do you choose to keep a watchful eye on vitals? Note: No FI (Turbo, Super), this is just a normally aspirated vehicle.

oil pressure and water temp are all you should need.

How bout a second fuel level gauge, just figuring the stock one will get quite the work out if you are towing much.

I bought an Edge Evolution for my F-150 because it lets you monitor 4 parameters from a big list. At the time it was cheaper than 4 gauges. I have Engine Oil Temp, Tranny Temp, AVG MPG and Water Temp on my screen right now. The Edge also gives a slight boost to power, can change the shift firmness, clear codes and can data log.

I'de consider tranny temp more important than oil temp.

I have never monitored tranny temp on a manual tranny while towing, and never heard of anybody having a problem with it. I still believe you only need water temp and oil pressure.

oops, sorry. Missed the NV4500 part.
oil temp is only good if you know how hot is too hot.
rear diff temp could be neat to have, but same thing.

Sorry to hijack, but is that Edge Avegare MPG based on fuel intake or air intake? My mom's Camry has the avg. mileage feature like most new cars, but it is forever the optimist because as I understand it it reads based on incoming air, not actual fuel consumption. The difference might seem negligible, but it forever reads 3 or so mpg higher than the odometer method. Her average MPH, on the otherhand, reads low. Reset it with the cruise on 65 on the highway and it will say 57.6 mph. I'm not sure which is off there, but it's a little frustrating in a newish vehicle.

Have no idea. Like the one in our BMW it does let you know when you are keeping your foot in it too much. Also, you get a good baseline of what the vehicle should be getting and if it drops off you know something is up. Our BMW went from 30+ mpg to 26-27mpg for my trip to/from work, I ended up replacing the front wheel bearings a few weeks later and the avg mpg went back up to the usual.
