: WTF is wrong with 4 wheel parts Wholsalers ???

I am so fuming mad I can't even think straight.. but I am going to keep this cival...

How in the world has 4wp grown so big with the quaility of service they provide?

I ordered a set of 38.5 TSL/SX's on Chrome Modular wheels with 2.5" of backspacing on August 13th. They told me the wheels were out of stock and they would ship out that Friday, so I 2nd Day Aired them a money order for the full amount it arrived on Thursday. I called Friday evening to check on my order and the saleman I talked to was out so I left a message.. On Monday I called again and left a message, after 3 more calls to them they kept telling me that only the salesman I spoke to could tell me the status of my order. Well after demanding to speak to his bosses boss I got somebody who told me the wheels were still backordered and they would go out the next Wednesday, well Wednesday came and they were still backordered intil Friday the 26th. I called again and took 4 attempts to get a straight answer turns out they are still backordered until Sept 6th. Well once again I got the run around and was told it would be Sept 11th. I called Sept 11th and they tell my the wheels came in and they would ship out and transit time would be 5-7 days, I gave the 9 due to the events of last week. Well I just called and after being transfered 4 times I found out that they HAVE NOT SHIPPED YET !!!! Reason unknown but the tire department has the paperwork and they are mounting them right now. So he I sit waiting with 4 donuts on my rig and my first ride scheduled for October 11th. Given I still need to put a cage in it and would like to drive it some before the ride to work out the bugs.

How the hell do they stay in business when the salesman won't give you the time of day after you drop 1200 bucks in there lap?

Sorry had to vent, If they don't ship today like promised I am going to put a bounty on there heads. 'I am sure somebody in the Compton area wantes some extra cash?

Because fools like you disregard all the bad experiences that have been discussed here many many times and keep feeding them $$ Actually I think it's because most of their customers are pozers who just walk in and buy stuff off the shelf. Seems like they always have plenty of pozer crap on hand, but no matter what I ask for they have to order it If I was going to buy from them (which I never will again) whatever it was would have to be in stock that very second. As soon as they utter the words "we can order that for you" I translate that to mean "quick, run for the door!" Now I just ignore them altogether and occassionally pay a little more to a shop that actually appreciates my business

Don't worry I plan to write the president and tell him about the horrible service I recieved, the people I spoke to, with phone extensions, and how they didn't have the courtsey of returning my calls.

Allow me to share my similarly terrible experience with 4wpw:

I needed some stainless steel brakes lines ASAP because I was starting my SAS in only a few days and wanted to (and did) finish my swap in just two days. Not knowing how much lift I would get I wanted the lines so that I could drive home safely. So I call up 4wpw and ask them. The only pair of lines they have in stock is in Florida. For some reason they are unwilling to let me pay the outrageous price to get them to me in time. Instead, the salesman finds a set of lines laying around. The lines had been sold to another customer already but were waiting on some other backordered part before they shipped/got picked up. So he sells them to me and promises to ship them that day. If they had shipped they would have been to me the next day since this 4wpw (oakland) is about 40mi from me. They didn't arrive that day or the next. So I call and repeat to them how it is important I have these lines Friday morning. The first salesman says they didn't ship. The second one (manager) says they did. Whatever. The tracking number he gives me doesn't even show up on the UPS website. I call UPS, they have no knowledge of the tracking number. Eventually I figure out these lines aren't coming and start calling other shops. Central 4wd in sac had them for about $10 more. I call 4wpw and ask the manager to send someone to sacramento to go pick them up. He calls back later to tell me he tried so hard but that noone was already heading that direction. Whatever . I never got that set of brake lines. The next week (after I did my SAS) I called again and told this mgr that my lines never showed up. So he, in a very willingly matter, sent me another set.

I call this manager back a few days after I get my lines and ask him to hook me up on tires since he screwed me over with the brake lines. He goes sure sure, I can do that. Whatcha want. So I tell him I want (4)35x12.5x15 BFG MT KMs on 15x8 rockcrawlers with 3.75 BS. He calls back with a price. $10 higher than what the frickin website charges! I tell him that and he says he can match the website. What kinda frickin' deal is that?

I called my uncle (works for dealership) and got quoted 5 of them for $120ea from a certain tire dealership. The rims were $32ea. Best part was the place screwed up and only charged me for 4 tires at 120ea. I put 4wpw on the same shelf as TAP.

I'm sure old man Adler would enjoy hearing from you if you have all the names and what the real stories are, he is a real stickler on retail. But I have noticed the same once you pay, your on the back shelf. Only pay the minimum deposit then after you get it and make sure it is right then pay. (I don't know if they will do that for mail order, I assume you were at a store.) I think they do so well is because most of the time you can't beat there priceing.

I ordered five 36x12.5x15 Swamper SX's mounted on 15x8 Rockcrawlers. I was told to expect 10 business before I would recieve the setup. 2 days later they called me and said informed me my wheels were on a national backorder. They offered a free upgrade, which I accepted. 4 days later I recieved my tires and wheels, 4 business days early even with the backorder.

Im going to have to agree. I remember when they literally were Supershops-same owners and system just more interest in 4x4 parts now than drag racing. I ordered a b&m th400 and three weeks later kept getting the run around and canceled the order. I know I paid $100 bucks more for my 36-12.5s from Les Schwab but I have a national warrenty and service support. I buy gears from them at the local yearly swapmeet cause they sell them for $100. bucks a set new from Us Gear. I dont even like to give them that business.I even pay higher prices at a local shop BILLY BOBS OFFROAD just for the service. Its nice having someone take your money thats nice enough to remember your name and appreciate your business.

I am really sorry to hear about all the problems you guys are having with 4Wheelparts. I have been doing business with them for the past 10 years and have had only a few small problems with them. However if they say that something is on backorder i call back when they say it will be in and buy it at that time and i always do will-call pick up with them i don't really trust the shipping department (Oh we're sorry we lost your order.... Bullshit!). I have been in the parts industry along time and have had to learn the hard way. Sometimes it pays to pay alittle more!

I use ColoradoK5.com (http://coloradok5.com) a lot as well as this site... anyhow over there someone complained to them (4WPW). They sent an email because it seems a lot of CK5 people have had problems with them (big surprise)... anyhow to our surprise we got a reply from someone who is trying to help us out from 4WPW (I think he might have even been the president if I read it right?). You might wanna check it out... it's on the main 4x4 forum on one of the first couple of pages... says something like "Another satisfied customer of 4WPW"... dig up the guys email from there and email him to tell him of this... heck everyone who has had problems should email them. But if you choose to do so don't go off calling them mother @#$%@#%. That won't get you any where. This guy seems nice enough and willing to help out... maybe he can help you out and get you the results you want if you explain it in a some what calm reasonable monor (which yeah might be hard to do)? Well, I haven't had too many problems with them. If something wasn't there when it was suppose to be then I would call on the date they gave me. If it still wasn't there then I would get a huge discount & then what ever it was I ordered would show up two days later. The key thing for me was not just the phone calls but showing up at their business with a screaming kid. That doesn't just work there but at many 4 wheel parts stores! I got a lot of stuff at discount or below cost. I even got free labor & some free parts.

When I bought the gears the sales guy told me they had a 1 year warranty, I broke the pinion 6 months after the original purchase date, went back to the store they said sorry, they only have a 3 month warranty!!! I fuk'in hopped up on their counter and sat there till they fixed the problem. I too tried and failed with 4WPW. Tried to get the Tech 1 rims correctly backspaced for a TLC. After several sets of incorrect rims were shipped - even after I gave them the correct P/N to order, I gave up. Let them keep the rims and I got mine thru America's tire. I also had problems with my HS9500 - took over 3 weeks to get from Sacramento to Redding.

Never again.........

Update !!!

I took the advice of ChevyCaGal and found the link on ColoradoK5.com and got the email address of the President of 4WPW. It is amazing what happens when you take it to the top, just 3 hours later I got this message from the Pres:

I'm sorry that as a company were not able to give you the straight story on what was going on with your wheels. Currently, we have a problem with our supplier of Tech 1 wheels. Our delivery dates keep being pushed back almost on a daily basis and everyone here is very frustrated, including myself. We give you a date, based on info from the Mfg then they change the delivery date to us. This is the root of the problem. I am addressing this problem at the highest level. I'm attaching an audit trail of all of the 4 Wheel Parts employees that have touched your order since the day that it was put into the system. Your order has gotten a lot of attention internally, although you are not feeling it due to the fact that nobody could give you an accurate answer on what was really happening and you don't have your order.

I'm instructing Mark ******, the Sr. Manager in the Internet Dept, to follow up and get your parts to you as quickly as possible. Feel free to contact me again should you feel necessary.

Sincerely,
Greg ********

Then only 5 minutes later I got a call from the head of the Internet Dept and low and behold my wheels and tires are mounted balanced, wrapped and sitting on a pallet on the loading dock ready to be picked up. They are going to call me back with a Bill Of Lading number from the trucking company when it leaves today and I should have them by Wednesday or Thursday.

I give a big thumbs up to the President for taking time out of his day to resolve this problem, I am just sorry I had go to extremes to get my order. I will keep you posted and let you know the final outcome of my order, hopefully with a pic of the little ole Jeep "GETTIN IT AWN !!!!"

I have been to two locations and purchased from one. Both in the Bay Area. Santa Clara kicks ass. They fawkin carry my shite to the truck like I'm a hot chick at a grocery store. When I bought my wheel/tires... I came and picked em up when they said to.

I got my custom backspaced wheels from MRT, their non-beadlock wheels are the same price as 4WP or any other place I could find. Their service was super. Although my wheels were a few days late, they called ME to let me know there was a problem well before they were late, just to give me a heads up. I think its that kind of courtesy that deflates a lot of this kind of frustration.

I think as soon as your dealing with a mega-chain be it 4WP or the Home Depot, your gonna get a bunch of minimum wage retards that have been in the biz for a day and a half at the longest. Its all about volume and low overhead. There are exceptions, but from what I can tell they are rare. I'd rather pay a few extra $$ and deal with someone that actually knows what your talking about, and gives a damn that your spending $$ at their store. This either means the business has to be small enough for the owner to be within slacker ass-kicking range or the prices have to be high enough to hire and retain quality staff.

The moral...if you shop by price point alone expect to get what you pay for.

Screw 4Wheel Parts - Doug, Tim, John... all of them. Sure those guys are great, but it's usually a pain to hook up with one of them. Tires and Wheels in Texas - Call Todd Eady at Discount Tire in Plano. That's the best way to go. He's a wheeler and the manager and takes care of anybody. Jeep parts new or used - Collins Brothers. Ask for Michael Sailsbury. If they don't have it in stock, you'll get a straight answer about arrival time. Installation or repairs - Baertrax (Russ Baer - custom or basic) or Lee's 4x4 (Lee Chiver - more basic stuff). All of those places do what they say when they say they'll do it.

Those are the better options in the Dallas area.
