Powder coating versus winch rope

Title more or less states what I'm interested in.

I just purchased a Warn 8274 and was planning to clean it up including putting some black powder coating on the aluminum parts.

I am planning to run winch rope instead of cable so I was curious if the rope would destroy any powder coating put on the drum. I would think the rope would be "soft" enough that it wouldn't strip the powder coating off the drum. It might take the luster out of it though which isn't a big deal.

Anyone have some experience?

it might dull it some but it should be fine

it would certainly be less abrasive than the cable, or at least i would think. my friend powder coats and its actually quite durable. dulling and rub marks should be the worst of it.
