OK here's my setup 5.3 Vortec(295hp)/TH400/Atlas 6.0 with 42" Iroks with 4.10's in the housings. What stall speed TC should I be looking at getting? Haven't decided on what brake setup i'll be running but lets just say I keep it stock(GM Dana 60 with 14 bolt with disc brakes). I want to be able to stop this thing without having to throw into neutral every time. Oh yea this will be on a buggy.
Thanks,
Rob

i would just leave the stock TC in there, as far as brakes hydraboost will supply enough braking power

I will be running full hydro steering and i've already bought my hydro pump, so unless I change something I wont be running a hydraboost setup.

As long as you don't go to low with the stall you should be ok. I run a 800-1000rpm stall converter with my TPI SBC. I can stop fine as long as the engine is at idle but if you bump the RPMs up to around 900 it is a beast to stop. If the stock converter is 1500-2000 rpm range somewhere you should be fine. I just wouldn't drop below 1000-1200 rpm with that low of gearing.

IMO, when i not go below 1200rpm stall because when you get in a "get it" or "bump" stiuation, your motor will be able to get closer to your power band. I would look for a 1400ish stall because of the 42's with 4.10's. With that gearing your crawl ratio isnt very slow. My friend "Kyle" was running an 400hp ls1, th400, 4.3atlas 2sp, 5.xx axle ratios with 42's running a 3200rpm stall and LOVED IT because it would come on like a rocket. But he was a "get it!" kind of guy. R.I.P Dave Halabuk.
