I'm new to this forum and I've done a lot of reading of your old posts on this topic. I have a yj and I'm building up a rockcrawler. I'll be using a dana 60 with high steer arms and stock box. My question is can I use a 6 inch ram to assist my steering? I haven't had a chance to measure the pitman throw. I know I could possibly rig the arm directly to the high steer to achieve the proper geometry to balance the pitman/arm distance but I'd like to mount the arm to the tie rod. If I do that will it work properly without tearing something up? I know the ram will limit travel but the box may still have some turn left. Will I get problem with the box having throw left over? I know that I will have to runn the tie rod closer to the knuckle to achieve the right turning radius in 6 inches. Thanks guys I hope you can give me a hand.

You need to ask Matt AKA "the lake rat"

my toyota has 7" throw, I told him this and asked for a 6" ram and he said ok, so it must be ok? I will prob make my steering stops limit too.

Do you have to send him a power steering box to modify?
Not a bad price!

I belive it's a exchange price, I'm doing a product review so I'm not sure, he also made mine reverse swing so I can put the pitman arm foward instead of backward, so I won't have clearence problems between the tierod and drag link, cause my box is so far back, I have a zuk with a saginaw box and toy axles /4.3L,and custom frame so I "one off" install

I have a Dana60 with high steer, stock CJ PS box and a stock length pitman arm and my steering throw at the knuckle is 8 -3/8 I went with the 8" ram due to availabity, my steering is pretty good almost to the bumpstops.
I think the 6" ram would GREATLY reduce your steering radius and you would be cussing it on the trail..

not me, I have 7" lock to lock with no tires on and they rub the springs when they are on so 6" will be fine;) in fact my tires rub the springs before the stops will touch with 3.5" BC wheels.

Well it depends on how long the arm is off the top of the knuckle. If you make it short enough then yes you can use a 6" ram but 60's use an 8" one.

Thanks guys. Matt won't be back until Monday. I'm trying to get all my measurements down this weekend. All the advice has been very helpful.
