: Jeep TBI Conversion having issues.

I have finished my TBI conversion on a jeep 258. Starts up and attempts to run but seems to be missing, running very rich and when given gas it either attempts to stall or idles up but still missing. The engine did not have a miss when it was carberated two weeks ago. I have both of the computers that were made for the EFI. I supposable have a chip for the common one that the serial number ends in 47. If that comp is plugged in the jeep really runns rich and can not be idled up at all. If i plug the comp in it actually runs a bit better and is able to idle up but sometimes back fires through throttle body when given fuel. I am assuming this is a computer issue i even grabbed a comp that i know is programed for this from a neighbor with same set up and it still ran terrible.

OK so i now know that this is a fuel pressure issue. I am able to pinch the inlet fuel line and that allows the jeep to almost run perfectly. Is there a built in regulator, and no i do not as of yet have a fuel pressure gauge. I will attempt to pick one on today. Can i just install an inline regulator. Also the donor was a 4.3 V6 not the 5.7 V8.

Any suggestions.
ThanksAny suggestions.
Thanks

the regulator is built in. it should be the same for the 4.3 and 5.7

The regulator is a part of the throttle body. It can be adjusted in place with a pair of pliers. If for some reason you can't reach it, you can remove the top of the throttle body, remove the regulator, and adjust it.

BUT
Donot adjust the FP untill you have measured the inlet and the return pressure.

If the return is not adequate and restrictive it will cause the inlet pressure to rise.
You may want to unhook the return line and run the hose in a bucket to see if it makes a difference.

It sounds like you bought or were given this system with no research or knowledge of FI before the conversion.

Check the FI FAQ's at the site listed above before you start making any adjustments.

And your ECM should be a 1227747 not ending in 77!!

Verify the numbers and get the code off the label or off the chip under the cover.

Thanks for the replies, i have been around one of these swaps befoire and everything appears to be hooked up correctly. I replaced the IAC which was frozen, i also attempted the throttle body regulator adjustment. I am still getting to much pressure, if i pinch the fuel line the engine leans out and runs much better but the cone shapped fuel is no longer there and the engine rpms reach 3000 with butterflies closed. i will try to get a fuel pressure gauge on there tonight and see what i am getting.
I also will disconnect the return line and try that again.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Yeah... check your fuel pressure!!! :flipoff2:

It may be that your injectors are too big (for the base pulse width) and dumping too much fuel. By restricting the inlet, you're leaning it out where it runs better. You might need to swap to smaller injectors, modify the BPW, or both. Until you get a FP gauge on there and build a data cable to log some data, you're just chasing your tail.

Still doesn't sound like the IAC is working properly.

You should also add the "key on" and "eng running" voltage checks to that list of todo's.

What about the ECM/chip code?
ASDU....axdx?

So i finally gained some ground on this problem last night. The main problem so far has been vacuum. I had a small leak between my Throttle body and adaptor, cleared that up and found my MAP sensor was bad. Now i have a great idle and i can slowly throttle up but unable to quickly hit the gas with out it flooding out

Gotta ask the simple stuff----------temp sensor working properly? and is the map sensor vac line hooked up right

Vac is hooked up to the only line between the two fuel lines. Very short line about 10inches. I am hopeing to get my ALDL cable hooked up very soon and i will know how the temp sensor is working. Is it better to run the temp sensor in the block or in my intake manifold? I now have it in the block but i assume the intake might be better since it is not effected by the thermostat.

I had the same problem, try unhooking the Map sensor's vacuum line with it running. I did this and it didn't change anything and wouldn't let me rev up fast. I replaced the sensor and now it's all good.
