Was gonna post this in the Ford forum but I think it applies here. People always like to point out that the Ford Sterling 10.25 and 10.5 rearends are limited to no deeper than 4.56. This hasn't been true for some time since Randy's has offered 5.38s which I'm currently using and have no complaints.

Anyway, I noticed last nite Drivetrain Direct is advertising 4.88 and 5.13 for new SuperDutys, which would be the 10.5 rearend. Now, I DON'T KNOW if this would work in older 10.25 rearends, but I think it would w/the appropriate carrier.

I know DD once told me the 10.5 can be converted to the older 10.25, so I don't see why the 10.25 couldn't be converted to 10.5. FWIW

And before anyone asks, the 10.25 is 35 spline, 1.5" shafts, full floater. Found under nearly all '85ish+ F250s and F350s.

Is 5.38 available for the reverse rotation D60 found in front of pre '98 F350s?
Wish they'd had 4.88 and 5.13 when I went out and bought a 14 bolt for my '88 F350 so I could run 4.88 with 325/85R16 XML Michelins.
5.38s allows "stock equivalent" gearing with 11.00R20s - 43+"

10.25 and 10.5 gearset's are 100% interchangable, the one thing that is not is the rear pinion bearing! the 10.5 has a thicker pinion head so it requres a different bearing, otherwise all compatable..

Yes. That's exactly what I'm using. Just a few months ago it was NOT avail (well it was, but only thru Ford dealers and only if you convinced them it existed), but Ford apparently just allowed Spicer to re-release (they were avail a couple years ago until Ford stopped it for some reason) to the public thru aftermarket distributors. I got mine from WCD, was gonna buy from Randy's as they had them also but WCD gave me a killer price to steal business from Randy's :)

Much of the above is what I pieced together by talking to Randy's, Reider and ORU, so if I'm wrong please clarify!

Note the 5.38s for the RC are OEM Spicer - or at least mine are - and are setup to take a crush sleeve which the newer D60's apparently use. Worked fine in my '87 housing, just had to use a crush sleeve as a spacer (did not collapse it).

And DSI, good info!
