: Anyone ever convert a FF D60 rear to 6 lug?
ouibus 06-07-2002, 02:45 PM I have a D60 out of a J4000 that I trying to match width wise with a front D44. I am having a hard time finding any Jeep J20 front ends. I have found a couple of J10 and Cherokee Chief D44's. I realize that you can convert the front 6 lug to 8 lug pretty easily, but I was wondering if anyone has ever converted a rear 60 to 6 lug. The reason that I would want to do this is that I already have 35's mounted on 6 lug rims. I want to go to disks in the back anyway, so maybe I could just convert it to six lug then. I searched a little bit for this, but came up with nothing. Any help that you guys could give would be great. Thanks, Thomas
i dont think there is a way, the way to convert 8 lug ff to disc is to use 79 f30 front rotors on the rear. 1/2 ton/waggy calipers and brackets.
neither me nor ken can think of a way to make a FF 6 lug:confused:
Keith 06-07-2002, 04:26 PM Cakewalk! Weld some Ford big bearing end on it and order SF axles with the pattern you want. Run Monte Carlo calipers with an aftermarket bracket.
Brandon 06-07-2002, 04:32 PM what he said, except the el dorado brakes are a bolt on, no making of brackets and it has an e-brake..

ouibus 06-07-2002, 08:04 PM I guess I could convert it to a semi floater, but I was wanting to keep it a FF axle. I was wondering if any rotors and hub assemblies has a 30 spline input. That way I could just take the caliper brackets, hub and rotor assembly and graft it onto the rear.
66CJdean 06-07-2002, 11:43 PM If you keep it FF you will have to make the hole in the wheel larger to fit over the hub.
NOODLES 06-08-2002, 12:27 AM Foothill off road has a 60 centered toyota axle with DOM axle houngs and 35 spline axle shafts going to toyota brakes with toyota wheel bearings and 6 lug.I'm sure they would no how to make a application to suit you. Also there is a couple years that chevy had a 6 lug 60 rear and ford had a 5 lug 60 rear.
Brandon 06-08-2002, 08:20 AM why do you want FF? You think you will break a 35 spline moser shaft?
ouibus 06-08-2002, 10:54 AM Brandon,
I wouldn't be too worried about breaking a 35 spline shaft, but the big issue is cost. I realize that to get shafts made, I would easily be looking at $300+ dollars. I figured that if I could find some application that already had the rotors and other hardware, it wouldn't be too expensive.
66CJdean, that is a good point that I had not thought of. Oh well, I guess I will just keep looking for J20 or J4000 front axle. I will have to buy some new wheels, but I shouldn't have a hard time finding those.
chris demartini 06-08-2002, 01:20 PM Put the FF hubs in a lathe and machine them to 4.170" on both ends of the wheel flange. Drill the 6 lug pattern in, mount a chevy rotor on the back and make caliper brackets. Do a search, there was a thread a month or two ago about doing this to a 14FF and it had pics. Or for a lot less money just get 15" 8 lug wheels (yes they do fit), they are easy to find
ouibus 06-08-2002, 05:48 PM Thanks chrisd, that is some good info. I feel that you are probably right. Also, I found a line on a couple of J20 front ends. So hopefully they are not too expensive. Well, I guess I will find out monday. Thank you guys for your help.
Grendel 06-08-2002, 09:07 PM How many of those J-20 front ends do you want? I have four currently sitting in a parts pile in Massachusetts!

True I suppose, but I got say $300 for the shafts, and $90 for the rest of the parts..
Go to the PnP on half off day or find a El dorado 9" with rear disks and a 9"
Get the whole thing, then cut the ends off and weld em on your 60. Now all you need is to slide in the new moser shafts..
I am all about low buck, got less than a grand into my spooled rear including the labor I paid to have the ends welded on etc..

Eldorado 9"? arent eldos front wheel drive GM product
ouibus 06-09-2002, 01:43 AM Grendel, I would only need one of the J20 front 44's, but I might consider two if the price was right. I am sure that someone from around here could use one. I need one that is from the years of '74-'79. It needs to be passenger side drop, and around 65"-66"'s wide. If it has flat top knuckles and 4:10 gears that would be a plus as well. Let me know what you are looking to get for one.
Brandon, If I had the $300 dollars to spend on shafts, I would probably do this. As it stands right now, I only have enough money to buy a front axle and maybe lock the rear end. I will start working for the summer here this next week, but the majority of that money will be allocated to paying off some bills. Being in colllege can sometime really put the strain on the resources. I know, I should feel grateful that I even have enough to be able to do the things that I do. But we all have our hobbies and passions, and four wheeling and working with vehicles happens to be a passion of mine. I have made many other sacrifices in my life in order to get where I am today with my rig. Thanks again you guys for the help, Thomas
Brandon 06-09-2002, 10:25 AM you can get a spool for near $200, add $300 for the shafts and you are right where you said you were gonna spend (that is about what a locker would cost)
I hear ya though, I'd like to see what ya end up with..
ouibus 06-10-2002, 04:35 PM Brandon, I will be sure to let you guys know what I end up with.
Grendel, I am interested in one of those J20 fronts if you still have them. If you don't see this, I will PM you.
