: Project Strange Rover
TacoJedbob7 07-11-2007, 07:36 PM Well im getting bored with my toyota truggy, and i found two rovers for a great deal to keep me occupied this summer. Not sure what im getting myself into... im thinking this might get expensive:D
This is the 1990 with 57k miles. having some fuel issues, but should get it running by tomm :) The other rover is a 94 LWB with a bad fuel pump, and will become the parts rig for the SWB 90.
plans are a mild lift from RoverTyme 3" coils, some rock protection and 33s. Thats it hopefully ;) Its will become the weekend warrior, getting tired of having to trailer around my truggy everywhere

TacoJedbob7 07-11-2007, 09:02 PM and anyone has an extra rear hatch i need one, both of mine are fully shot
64rovr 07-11-2007, 09:42 PM If you need any help or advice I'm just north of you in MA. Check out our Rover club, www.bsroa.com. We should be having another big run soon if you want to tag along!
TacoJedbob7 07-11-2007, 10:15 PM great, as long as i can get the thing running soon! im new to british engineering, so i will most likely be needing advice.
lrsafari 07-11-2007, 10:17 PM I have a perferct west coast one on my parts rig, but I am in Sacramento. I have it posted elsewhere. PM me and I can send you a link. I don't know if I am allowed to link in the thread to another forum.
I have extensive photos of it, showing overall and details of the inner and outer corners. I can take additional one sif you need them.
I understand that shipping via airline is the cheapest way to go.
Congrats on getting what looks like a super clean truck. I just got a '95 LWB with 88K that I am making my dd and trail/dredging rig.

TacoJedbob7 07-12-2007, 12:57 AM well i already could ask for some advice...
so today i went out and replace the battery with a high quality one from Walmart, i know its not built to last "DuraLast" but it will suffice. Turned the key over and it just would crank. Mind you the rover hasnt started in over a year. So the first thing i did was flush the gas and put new high octane in. Tried to start and just cranked, no fire. While i was looking around the rover i found some spare parts...one of them being a brand new own fuel filter (cha ching- freebee) so i assumed that the previous owner knew this might have been an issue and never resolved it. So removed the old filter and there was rusy looking gas coming out of the pre filter side with metallic flakes, so i then realized it was a clogged filter. But first i wanted to make sure the fuel pump was working, so put a catch pan beneath the truck and started it while the filter was removed, sure enough fuel cam pouring out of the tank line (which connects to filter soft line) So then i hooked everything back up and started it, nothing still. So i ran back quickly to see if there were any leaks, and sure enough right after the filter in the soft line that runs half way down the frame rail (to about front of the rear door) had a pin hole or crack that was releasing pressurized fuel. Now do you think that this pressure loss could cause the engine not to fire? or should i be looking at other issues why it wont fire, spark or injectors? I got new fuel line to replace the cracked on, which i will replace tomm, but any advice would be apreciated. thanks!
64rovr 07-12-2007, 07:50 AM It should still run with a pinhole leak. Check for presence of fuel at the rail. Check the cap/rotor/coil connections, and if that still fails check the actual fuel pressure at the rail. It should be 2.3-2.5 bar (33-36psi).
PTSchram 07-12-2007, 11:36 AM Oh for the love of God. Fix the fuel leak and then worry if it won't start.
These trucks will run on stupidly low fuel pressure, but they tend to burn up when that fuel leaks.
The crimp collars can be cut from the fuel line to expose hose barbs. The line is 5/16 and the pressure should never exceed 40 psi.
TacoJedbob7 07-13-2007, 12:43 AM well after fixing the fuel problem, I finally got it running. sounds pretty good for sitting for a year. But once i got it running i took a second look, and now it has another fuel leak, closer to the engine. I think im just gonna run some soft line all the way back. And the other issue im having is that the sunroof, which i was messing with, will no longer close. I dont know if it is the motor or the switch.
revor 07-13-2007, 07:56 AM I think our new friend Taco has yet to realise that he has entered a new very strange world..
Taco you'll have a ball with this truck but the first thing you need to understand that it's not a Toyota, not even close. Rovers have driven to the ends of the earth, unfortunately the technology that got them there came from those same dark places.. It's quite possible that the reason that the sunroof stopped working is because the right rear tail lamp is burnt out.. It's these quirks that make them interesting and increases the profit of the local brewery every time one needs troubleshooting..
TacoJedbob7 07-13-2007, 12:15 PM or why the windows stop working when the wiper fuse is blown? found that out today as well, welp i guess im gonna go support my local brewery now...and hope that things start fixing themselves.
PTSchram 07-13-2007, 12:38 PM Relax, drink a beer, and wave at every Rover you see on the road.
Junkyddog11 07-16-2007, 06:37 PM Personally I'd rather relax, drink allot of beer and throw the fawkin' empties at the next Rover that pulls into the shop........and then wave.
(unless of course that Rover happens to belong to someone reading this in which case I'll [for the record] state that I would never ever throw empties at your rover)
.....and it's only Monday :flipoff2:
blakeape 07-16-2007, 08:45 PM I live in Montana but grew up in Connecticut. I have a buddy in Winchester with a green 88 parts rover he might have some stuff you need. he's also way into those things and has a few other friends into them with parts rigs too. His name is Matt and you can try his cell at 860.307.2353. Tell him Jake sent you his way.
revor 07-16-2007, 09:06 PM Why is it that every time a threads starts with troubleshooting it ends with beer?
And Taco remember with Rovers it's always about the grounding.. More wierd crap happens because of bad grounding than most anything I have ever seen! It will help more than you can imagine to buy a Rave CD or factory manual....

I'm not sure your buddy wants his number posted on an extremely public forum!

We could all start calling him and asking really stupid Rover question.
Oh and you should remove his number from your quote :D

Ha, fixed it. Didn't even think of that!
evilfij 07-17-2007, 01:05 PM Give me a deal on the rear driveshaft from the LWB and I will give you my cell phone and you can call me for over the phone trouble shooting.
