: Custom Mog axled early bronco trail rig
mountianlivin 07-11-2007, 07:25 PM I built this bronco last year because I wanted to be one of the guys riding all the extreme trails here in Colorado instead of watching. Since then I have gone through trails like Independence, Carnage (BV), Upper Helldorado... The only time I ever pulled out my winch cable was the exit of Upper helldorado (and to help other people). Other then a few dents and scratches that bronco has made those trails seem surprisingly easy. This might seem crazy, but now that I have done all those tough trails I am ready to go back to a milder, more streetable, rig that I can through my kids in and take off. I would be willing to consider reasonable trades especially if you have something like a nice; FJ60 or newer Land cruiser, 404 or 416 Unimog (actually any kind of Unimog), or any other cool motorized 4x4, hot rod, rat rod or water craft. But it has to be really cool, cuz this bronco is really bad ass. Here are some of the specs:
71 early bronco - front is narrowed 13" inches, has some dents, and scratches
Warn 8274 winch (like new)
Mass air Fuel injected injected 351W engine, with Mustang ECM, on board air compressor, Serpentine belt, and Saginaw p/s pump, electric fan, Long tube headers, race mufflers... Engine is very strong, runs very well, and doesn’t burn oil.
C4 auto transmission with low miles since rebuild. Art Car Shifter. Big cooler.
Dana 20 transfer case. with custom twin sticks that work great.
41 inch Mich XL tires on steel Mog wheels including a spare. Lots of tread remaining.
Unimog 404 axle’s front and rear with air actuated cylinders for the lockers
Everything on the mog axles is in good shape other then a few very small seeps. (Mog axles seep)
Rear suspension - 3 link with coils. All the links are made from 2" .25 wall DOM and have huge great quality 1.25" shaft 1" bore heims. Flexes like crazy. I have never maxed it out. I have driven to the top of a ramp forward and backward.
Front suspension - Wishbone link with quarter elliptic springs. I built the suspension this way to be different, and it has worked really well in the extreme technical stuff with big ledges. I would upgrade to coilovers if I was rich, or a high speed driver.
Bronco has full cage that has proven safe, however, I was planning on building a new one, and I will if no one buys it first.
I am sure I am missing tons of stuff. Feel free and ask questions.
Finally -There are little of odds and ends that always need to be done with this type of vehicle. This bronco isn't pretty, or blingy in any way, but it is truly unique and I would take it on any trail with confidence that I would get through. Here are some pics. My email is mountianlivin@aol.com
$10,000 OBO
mountianlivin 07-11-2007, 08:01 PM Forgot to mention full hydro steering. I also forgot to mention that the bronco was featured in a 4 page article in a Polish Motor trend type magazine. I don't know what it says though. If you go to Classicbroncos.com and do a search for unimog, portal... you will find tons more pics, and info on the bronco. No Lowballers please. I am a good guy and willing to hook someone up with a good deal, but I won't sell to a lowballer jerk looking to beat me up on price. Also, due to all the mods, and what this rig is built for the future owner of this rig should be somewhat mechanically inclined. More pics. Thanks

K5Crazy 07-11-2007, 08:29 PM What a Bronco, what a deal ! Good luck on your sale, I'm burried in my money pit or I would snatch it up in a hurry.
mountianlivin 07-11-2007, 08:33 PM Thanks for the nice compliment! I put a lot of heart, soul, sweat... into it so your compliment really does mean a lot.

mountianlivin 07-14-2007, 05:50 PM Here are a couple more pics as an excuse to Bump.
mxr148 07-15-2007, 01:54 AM Have you wheeled it in the snow (deep stuff)? How does it do if so? I'm one of those "built not bought" retards but if I had the cash I would'nt hesitate. Bump for a sweet and different EB.
rfrey 07-15-2007, 09:07 PM I am building a 69 k5 with EFI auto...44 and 14 bolt...I just had it rino lined inside and out. Yellow/Orange outside and black inside. I have about $8000 into the project now, ...but I just don't want to finish it...I am not sure if I want to trade yet...nor how much cash I would come up with...but I am thinking about it. Figured I would throw it out there...if you are interested, I will consider it...if not, I move on.
Thanks,
Ryan
mountianlivin 07-16-2007, 07:39 AM Yes. I have wheeled in the snow and it is GREAT, other then not having a winshield any more. Floats right through deep stuff. I have never had it stuck - yet. Thanks for the kind words

GREEN 07-18-2007, 06:50 PM What year is the Bronco. Looks like a nice ride. Green sticker or plates on it?
68crawler 07-19-2007, 01:19 PM I have seen this Bronco on Upper Helldorado and I can tell you with confidence, this is one bad ass machine. Whoever buys it will not be disappointed! And it's a steel at 10K! Bump for an awesome rig!

The bronco started out as 71. Not too many stock parts left on it though. It isn't steet legal, but just don't get pulled over. :D

Thanks Man! I think I know who this is. Is this the guy with that bad ass blue bronco? You know the longer that this ad is up, the harder it is the think of letting my bronco go. I am thinking of not selling it now. I have too much of my soul in it. Maybe I will just raise the price to $20,000 so no one in there right mind will buy it.

Yeah, that's me. :D You can see my front fender in your picture in post #12. Can you just put a back seat in your rig? Then you can haul the family with you. :smokin:
mountianlivin 07-27-2007, 03:34 PM $9k or a nice 4 door 4x4. or a combo of the two. Doesn't anyone have an fj60 that they don't want? I would probably trade someone straight across for a nice lifted fj60.

mountianlivin 11-26-2007, 06:56 AM Shameless bump. I have a new baby in the house. Bronco needs a good home. I am more open to trades now that the sentimental value is subsiding.

mountianlivin 11-28-2007, 03:48 PM Nice boat, but since I have never operated a boat, I don't think I could handle yours. We don't have too many big lakes in Colorado.
Roc Doc 11-28-2007, 05:22 PM Bump for an unusual rig.
What's the wheelbase?
mountianlivin 11-28-2007, 08:42 PM Thanks. Yes - I think I accomplished my goal to build a unique rig that would stand out. It is not what you usually see out there. To me, that is a good thing. Wheel base is 110"
Do you have a title for it and how does it handle at highway speeds 55-65 mph.
mountianlivin 12-03-2007, 03:54 PM Do you have a title for it and how does it handle at highway speeds 55-65 mph.
Yes, to the title. No way on the highway. It is more extreme driving this bronco down my street, then any trail. It needs some of those fancy Anti rock bars to be more streetable.
