I just drove the maiden voyage on my new steering setup. I ditched the crappy Rusty's steering and built my own with 1.25 .250 DOM and heims. Tie rod is above to knuckle and the drag link is connected to the TR via heim and weld on tabs.
The steering is almost "twitchy." Just the smalled bit of steering wheel input moves the vehicle. Of course I haven't reconnected my front sway bar and the body roll is pretty bad, even with the spare and the rack not on top of the jeep.
Question: Can I reduce my caster so that the steering isn't so twitchy (responsive)? Or should I just leave it an be thankful that I don't have the dead spot in the steering caused by the POS rusty's steering rolling it's tie rod?
(Not a trailered rig, still needs to be streetable)

Back off the sector shaft adjuster a small amount. It is the nut and allen set screw on the top of the box. Loosten the nut and turn the set screw 1/4 turn and then tighten the nut back down and see if it helped.

Give it a couple days and you'll be used to it. :D Mine felt the same way when I switched to the crossover set up. Less slop in the system than they come stock with.

Hey, Rob! How's things on the east coast XJ scene? Don't see you much on the dark side.
Yes I will get used to the responsiveness. I do need to figure out my sway link mount on the pass side so I can deal with the body roll. I cut mine off so I could raise the steering over-the-knuckle.

CJ - 1.5x8" ram. It's made by Lee Manufacturing and I got it from Kilby Enterprises. Brad's selling it for about $220. Heims are not included.

Paul. Does that ram mount in the stock steering stabilizer/track bar bracket? It looks like it. What size heims did you use for the sway bar? Do they rattle on the road?

Sean - Yes it's the stock location, but that's not a stock front axle and all brackets are different. The heims on the swaybar came with the Currie Antirock and I think they're 1/2" (from memory). Rattle? Who can hear a rattle?
