Just want to make sure I'm not paying too much for the motor I'll be swapping into my 60...

One of the local salvage yards has a 92 TBI 350, complete, with 65K miles on it for $750. Is that a reasonable going price for these motors?

I'd love to get finished with this conversion before the fall wheeling season...

Thanks!

$750 seems reasonable. BUT make sure it has all the accesories and it is running well. tracking down EFI problems can get real expensive really quickly. Get the air cleaner to the oil pan and the fan/waterpump to the flywheel. Piecing together a setup will be a pain in the ass. Also make SURE the computer and wiring are there and complete, not cut if you have intentions of using them. Trying to track down a computer and the right BIN file for the PROM can be a pain, and require some $$ for the stuff to program the PROM or pay dealer prices for the missing stuff.

If it is running still, let it run until it warms up, so you can see if it sets any codes. Once you disconect the battery all codes are erased and many times this might mask some underlying problems if you only gave it a quick start and shutdown...

Just my $.02

I'm probably going to look at it tomorrow, to make sure how "complete" it is and making sure it "has all accessories".

As far as TBI injection goes... Since I wired up my 2F with TBI and have all the necessary programming hardware and software, I'm not too afraid of any issues there. I'm just looking for a solid 350.

I've half thought of getting an older engine with acessories, and bolting on a TBI intake and sensors... I can probably get everything I need for ~$250, but I'm just too lazy to go through the trouble... :D

If it is complete motor and runs, then it is a steal. Low mileage TBI motors are hard to find....

i just picked one up for $500 and i thought that was a steal. i think even $750 is not a bad price at all, considering the motor has low miles and hopefully all the accs come with it.:smokin:

Get everything. PS pump, AC compressor, alternator, etc... That alternator is expensive and has like a 75.00 core charge on it. I paid about that for my 89 TBI in 97 it had 52,000 miles on it. You will thoroughly enjoy that motor in a 60.

if you buy a delco alternator (and from my experience you should, because they're the only ones to hold up), you should not have to pay a core charge at all. i never have.:smokin:

Yep...the critical is to make sure you get everything and you might check to see if the yard will let you come back for any misc junk you forget....easy to do.

Hard to say if the price is good or not. I purchased an 1989 Chev conversion van with a 350TBI in it and around 190k on the ticker....$200 for the complete van. Starts/runs sweet, tranny is out (who cares). It was on the summer project list, but probably pushed off to winter now. Mileage is the killer on this one....but a quick rebuild should take care of any problems.

I've since decided to put the conversion off until later in the year. I'm way too busy this summer with family and work stuff to give the project enough time to be completed before labor day!!

Who knows, maybe I can convince myself to let go of 2k and get an Atlas II with my bonus next year! :D

Thanks for all the advise!
