Anyone know of any wheeling in Eastern WA or northern ID? Looking for somewhere to go out wheeling. Everything around Moscow ID is closed down pretty well.

Near Yakima, there are several great areas....Rimrock (extreme) Naches (moderate moderate+) Liberty (Moderate-extreme) A lot can depend on weather...a trail that would be a 2/10 in dry cond. can become a 9/10 when it rains. These trails are more "central" washington, but if you live in Settle, then Bellview is considered the "east side"

Was hoping to find some closer trails. I think it might be nearing time to move. I think that a four hour drive to go wheeling is a little excessive. Thanks

Check out Ceg Ranch as was posted above. I believe there is a section that talks about trails around the Spokane/Idaho area.

The Corde 'Alain (gawd i cant spell that:laughing:) river system offers some great trails. Particularly the north fork. Our club takes runs up Eagle crk a few times a year. Mica peak near Post Falls isnt a bad run. There are a lot of places east of Cord alain. Trails that will take you into North western MT.
Go to Moabjeeper.com and post a few questions.....there are a lot of guys on that forum from the Spokane/Postfalls area on that board. i used to live up there on the MT side, but i can for the life of me remember all the trails i've been taken on there.

yeah, but a lot of those runs end up in central WA, Naches, etc. Rich used to be part of Wolfpack but opted for Sunset 4-Wheelers because He and others ended up wheeling out that way more often. I dont blame them. WP lost some steam in the Northwest chapter when many of us moved away from the area. It's still going strong in Moab however.
But anyway, Rich's site (inadventures) is a good place to enquire about N. Idaho/E. WA wheeling. Also, moabjeeper.com....ask for Barry, he's the NW guru up there. He's also on inadventures.

*i just wanted to slander Rich on PBB:flipoff2:

The North Idaho Trailblazers up here is a good club, but their website is under construction right now.

There's a couple other guys on the board from the Moscow/Pullman area.

North Idaho trail Blazers club is most likely your best shot, they are an active club, Spokane 4 Wheelers but they are not very active. Spokane OHV park has a growing rock garden. What is it you are looking for. There are no legal trails like the Rubicon in Eastern Washington or even the Idaho panhandle. If you have a non street legal rig, you are just out of luck. A three hour tow (Casscades) one way is about the minimum. I'm thinking you might be a student from out of state. We do have lots of back roads (for SUV's) that will get you to remote sites. If you just want to get away to see wildlife, great vistas and pristine rivers. Look for the Snake River Canyon access points west of Riggins,Id. or east of Joseph, Or. The Snake canyon is deeper than the grand and you can drive down to the river. Go up the N.F. of the Clearwater 60 miles of drinking water clear river frontage. Drive the Magruder Corridor rd. which go between two wilderness areas and is 100 miles long and no services. Just keep it legal and respect all properties. There is a lot of adventure still open to those that have good maps. We just don't have obstacle wheeling like in the magazines.

I have spent the last ten or so years in this area and used to do allot of 4wheeling on the local mountain (Moscow Mountain), allot of cool good wheeling up their but they have been cracking down so there is no motorized activity aloud up there anymore. Looking for some moderately difficult trails. Now that I have a wheeling rig that I would drive somewhere (unlike my XJ on 38" boggers), I am open to traveling but it takes allot of money to make a four hour each way trips and was hoping to find something closer than three to four hours. I am starting to think that is about time to think about moving. Not very interested in nature drives. Miss going out on real wheeling adventures. Planning a trip to Naches Labor day weekend, and hoping to make it up to reeder pit(no idea how that is spelled?) Thanks for all the help.

Thinking about up near Gold Bar if I can find a decent sized town around there. Maybe near Yakama but I don't like the terrain by the city. We'll see.

monroe is good sized & growing & has access to 2 highways to either everett or Woodinville if you need to commute. Monroe also has a back road straight down to I-90. sultan is bigger than gold bar & closer in but still rural. reiter pit is just minutes from gold bar.

As mentioned earlier there is some good wheelin on mica peak, especially in the winter it makes for a good snow run.

Lot's of trails around Pinehurst, Id. Twin Sisters in Kettle Falls, Wa is another good one. There are forest sevice roads all over Northeast Wa and North Idaho that are fun with a couple feet of snow on the ground.

in my experience there are a ton of amazing wheeling spots in the N.I. and E. WA areas, that being said they aren't talked about often. i like it this way, most of the places i go you'll never ever see talked about on the web b/c most of us keep it under wraps. its a tight knit group who keeps things to themselves to avoid getting places shut down by idiots. my advice is to go wheeling with the club and meet other locals so that you can be in the in crowd. also as a basic: any Inland Paper land is accessible and offers pretty good wheeling but you have to buy their 'recreation pass' which available at a lot of places. i know that i sound mean or rude, but drastic measures must be kept or retards everywhere will come ruin my good wheeling spots through closure from abuse. just my .002

How about some directions to:
Mica, Pinehurst, and up the northfork.
I live in Coeur d'Alene, but have not been wheeling here. Jeep is ready to trail and no place to go!

north fork: head east on I 90 to the kingston exit and take cda river rd north

pinehurst: head east on I 90 and get off at the pinehurst exit head south through town at the outskirts of town you can stay on the main road or take a right and cross the creek, both can be explored and both lead up the hill. the road to the right is where all the rock faces are.

Oh no, another transplant!:flipoff2:

I mentions a few of the popular areas earlier in the thread. For a quick fix go out to the 7 Mile ORV park, just NW of town. You might consider joining the Spokane 4Wheelers or the North Idaho Trailblazers. Endless forest service roads which are tame, but can be fun in the snow.

Welcome, pilgram! My first advice. Just say," not from here, but got here as soon as you could". Leave it a that.
Where to wheel. For 95% of the LEGAL trails in N. Id. and E.Wa. you are way over equipe'd. Get a 2wd Tacoma Prerunner with a locker and have fun. Now for the ILLEGAL stuff. Keep a low profile and a quiet rig. :homer:

Redline, I live in Moscow also. I don't have the best rig ever.. a nearly stock 4Runner 4x4, but I feel your pain. Moscow Mountain is all private, but you don't have to go too far to find some decent wheelin.

I usually head for Hells Canyon which begins a few miles south of Lewiston which is only about a 40 minute drive. ZAZA road is easy to find and has lots of side roads.. but is not very easily driven - so it makes for a good wheelin trail. It takes you all the way down by where the Salmon and the Snake meet. By that time, you are already as far south as Riggins.. so it's a pretty long trail. If you want to make it to the river, bring some food.

There are all sorts of good wheelin trails out in Hells Canyon, and my favorite time of year to go is in the spring when you might still get some snow, and probably some mud.

If you don't want to go down there, you can always head out to Deary or farther. I go whitetail hunting out past Deary every year, and there are some trails meant for 4Wheelers that aren't actually restricted to those only. My 4Runner has a great time on those.

There are a lot of forest service roads all over the place.. they don't have any rocks to crawl, but if you go in the spring or winter... you're likely to get stuck.

The Palouse is no Rubicon, but I have an ok time.

Pinehurst is well known by the locals but it's taking a big change! BLM maps are out and there are specific trails now designated as 4x4 Jeep trails for the first time. But much of the other area is now off limits and tickets are being written.

Coeur d'Alene Forest has finished there travel plan. The final maps are not out but looks like about 35 to 45 miles of designated 4x4 Jeep trails are on the maps for the first time. We may be able to wheel them 2008.

These new and legal trails are all because of the hard work from members of North Idaho Trail Blazers. Look for their new website this month and come to the meetings.
