I inherited an old Smith K-frame model 10 from my great grandfather many years ago. I know they made gazillions of these old revolvers, but mine has an inscription on the side of it = "Converted by Bogswell & Harris, London". I've read that England used some half million of these pistols in WWII, but in a slightly different caliber = .38/200 () I have an OLD box of .38 specials that he had with the gun, but I have never fired it.

While searching for general info on the weapon, I read that there was some kinda lend/lease deal with England in WWII or something? And they converted the British pistols over to .38 specials & sent them back to the US? Are there any problems with this & you think this thing would be safe to shoot 38's in it?

Under the K stamped on the frame are the numbers 50282 can this be used to approximate when the gun was produced?

Any help or direction appreciated!

You can google and find out when it was manufactured.

# Can anyone tell me the date of manufacture of a S&W Model 10 with a SN of
# C8869XX?
# Thanks

Using Supica and Nahas' Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson as a
reference it appears you can pin down the date a bit by noting any of
the several modifications of the M10. For the venerable Miltary &
Police .38 the C serial numbers started in 1948.

In 1952 the front sight was changed from a blade to a ramp.

In 1955 the upper sideplate screw was deleted.

The Model 10 designation first appeared in 1957. The 10-1 came in
1959; 10-2 and -3 in 1961; -4, -5, and -6 in 1962; In 1977 the serial
number prefix was changed to D, with the serial numbers starting over
at D1.

But I am thinking the conversion inscription should put mine back near WWII...

actually mine does not say 'model 10' on it anywhere, only a K on the frame so I may have inadvertently misled you -

I believe that would be the outdoor, sports, and recreation forum. You've been here long enough to know about it and that it was formed primarily for gun and shooting related stuff. Don't be stupid.

A couple of options. Contact S&W with all the info and they will research it for you and can track the pistol and tell you when it was made and that sort of thing. You can also call the NRA National Firearm Museum or email them if you are a NRA member and those guys can really tell you a lot about the pistol. The NRA museum would be the best bet. I would not shot 38 special through it. The Brits converted most of there Lend Lease stuff to there own rounds. Some they just changed the name but others they modified the round. It is possible that if you fired it with 38 special it would basically blow up in your face if the pressure is too much and the pistol was not designed for it. Particularly if they fired old black powder rounds out of the thing and you tried to use modern ammo.

Quit being a dick if you don't know what you're talking about.

It's here (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=75). and the fact that usmcdoc14 is the mod should be enough of a clue that it's about guns:shaking:
